GoPro Black 5/6 LCD screen blank or not working.

Okay - just hung up with GoPro Support. They ran me through the typical troubleshooting script, upgrade the firmware, am I using a recommended SD card...blah, blah, blah. The tech tried to insist that since I wasn't using a recommended SD card, that was the problem. I held firm and said, no - that had nothing to do with it. She then asked where and when I bought the camera. I am about 2 months past one year from purchase. I do have a copy of the receipt since I bought it from QVC and can quickly pull a copy from their website. I also told her that we owned 4 GoPros in our family, and I also own a Karma Grip. She said since we are a loyal customer, they would issue a courtesy replacement (1 time). They sent me about 8 emails with all the shipping instructions and said it will take about 7 to 10 days to send mine in, and a replacement sent back - they pay the shipping all the way. The entire call took about 35 minutes. Worth my time to get it replaced!

No....this isn't a good fix...it's like "taking aspirin for pain"...let's get to the bottom of the problem. I have an older GoPro Plus...and it's screen went out also,...upon checking out my SIM card and replacing...the back screen "went out ever since" as well.

I told her “really..?! Almost $300 dls camera and I do a mistake putting the SD card and now is useless..??!! I’ll never going to buy a GoPro camera in my life.!”

Your right! It’s but accidentally putting the sdcard between the metal housing and the board. You slice a thin cable. Good job brother.

First time Gopro purchase direct from GoPro and they provided the sd card. Followed the startup instructions to the letter...set up language etc......screen worked fine......no issue putting the card in and no screen! Tech says we scratched the sd card...that's why the touch screen doesn't work??? Called them on that BS! But they'll replace it....SO glad I bought 2mths before our trip!

I contacted GoPro today for my HERO5 that has the screen issue, and after all the questions they told me it was out of warranty and would not repair/replace. I explained that I have 4 HERO4s and a new HERO7 Black and that seemed to have zero influence. I was extended a 20% discount off a new camera. Very disappointed. I only got a few uses out of this camera. What a shame how GoPro has become.

I guess I am the first person in the comments to ask why you did this video while driving? Im confused about that but I tried what you mentioned with an older Go Pro Hero 3 and sure enough they sent me out another camera and told me to send in the damaged camera. Now I am having the issue with my GPH7Blk and the LCD screen is blank. I noticed I was still able to connect the camera to the Quick app on my iPhone and I could completely control the camera from my iPhone! I just couldn't make adjustments directly on the camera so if you are in a pinch, connect the camera to the app on your phone and you should be go to go depending on what your shooting and how close you are with the camera. I will probably have to contact Go Pro to see if I can get another camera sent to me.

seems youre right.. this issues are still exist on gopro hero 7. my lcd’s are now blank while i removing and inserting the micro sd card. guys go get the big size micro sd, put it on and never pull it out anymore.

Thx for vid. I have a Hero 6 but my screen turns dark after i strt recording after a few minutes. Totally sucks. Heard the type of sd card can cause it and Gopro has a firmware update whixh I have not tried yet. May look for my receipt

Thats exactly what happens! I accidentally stuck my sd card in there and it went it right in front of the slot but wouldnt go in all the way, then I realized it wasnt in the right spot. Well, ever since now my touch screen is black and doesnt light up! I cant change any settings! Camera still works though!

No, I just called them on the phonee. I did have to verify where I got the GoPro. I bought mine at the Sprint store, so i went there first and got them to print me a reciept.

I found out that mine had the same problem but I actually solved it by taking off that padding that is on the battery cover , I mean it does seal it all it does is push the battery down which I found out when u close it the screen will turn black, I tried leaving it open and turning it on and the image came up again like before , so after messing with it and fiddeling around that was the only thing really stopping it from working perfect again . I highly recommend you all try and take that little black padding on the inside that goes above the battery and try it again, it worked for me when I took it off

Typo on my first message..... i was trying to say my s.d. card got stuck like what happened to you very bad design. Go pro told me to manually update the firmware. My question is did you try to manually update the firmware on the s.d. card before you sent it back. I don't have my receipt and go pro won't stand behind there go pro 6 unless you have a receipt even though it's clearly a design flaw. And they don't have a repair center so now it's a 430$ paper weight.
