While that is true, people should also be aware that if you browse through his many posts on his website, he is often a critic of some of the shortcomings of the GoPro. So while he may promote purchasing GoPro product, I don't foresee him talking up a product that doesn't perform well. Just my two cents.

Also an avid skier and ski filmer. This was more for a personal exploration. I used to use FY gimbals all the time before GoPro made a gimbal. Once I used the GoPro gimbal I couldn't believe how smooth it was, so I wanted to really see them side by side to see if it was truly more stable or not. Just sharing my findings here! :)

Yea, I also noticed the Karma footage was color corrected to have correct white balance and the feiyu was warmer

This Feiyu G5 is either broken, or you faked it. I can do a full run with my g5 and its solid smooth. Also I dont have any "turn around" issues. The first shot was definately made with the "fixed" mode of the g5. It supposed to look in the same direction while you turn it....Check the Manual, Abe. And for the guys thinking about buying a new Gimbal: Karma Grip has fixed batteries that get empty way faster. Also its more expensive, bigger, made out of plastic (most of it) and has less modes than the g5...Dont get blinded by this video...Oh and I almost forgot: GoPro 6 Stabilisation is automatically turned OFF (and stays off) when connected to the Karma Grip.
@fpvkarl58246 жыл бұрын
honestly i had my problems with the G5 pretty much similar to this video. and I actually broke the G5 after a bail. I've literally dropped the karma grip into snow and pretty much baseball swung it into a tree and its still going. It's a sturdy piece of hardware. Also never use the in camera stabilization, if you have to, always do that on a PC, especially with abe's polishing techniques.

I’ve had the Karma for over a year and used it a lot for mountain biking and skiing. It’s pretty awesome. There a few tricks for proper attachments and accessibility that you have to learn to make it even more useful. Skills with Phil has a few. For skiing I use the chesty straps as a holster than grab if I want to film someone. If I want POV I attach to chesty and use 4:3.

Can't believe the difference is that noticeable. My feiyu doesn't seem that shaky by itself, but I'm sure if I put it side by side with a karma, you'd see it like this. Crazy.
@abekislevitz6 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah, same thoughts here - we used FY for years and didn't ever think anything of the stabilization simply because it's sooo much smoother than no gimbal at all. Once we saw the Karma Grip performance I was pretty set on at least doing a side by side test to see for myself what the differences are.

Fantastic tool....I'm gutted we never got to see karma drone v2 but I really hope they still invest in karma grip

Abe, Been doing a lot of research. In reviewing your comments, it seems performance puts the Karma Grip above all others, even when the Karma Grip doesn't deliver the battery life and some of the other various features that I have liked in other models. What are your thoughts on the battery life, and how do you typically work around it. I think in terms of utilization, I doubt I'll be filming for over an hour on the grip, but it would be a nice feature to have. I'm currently torn between the Evo GP-Pro and the Karma Grip. I know you'll tell me to get the Karma, but what else should I know before my purchase. Thanks in advance. Love your videos, and some of your articles related to utilizing the Hero5.

Hi Abe, great video! Glad to see you made one of the G5. I remember when I asked you almost a year ago when you made the "GoPro Gimbal - Karma Grip vs Feiyu Tech Comparison" that I, " think a better comparison would've been to put the Karma grip, against Feiyu's flagship - the G5." I'm glad to see you finally made one. After using the G5 for over a year now, I can admit that it works fine, but not as well as the Karma Grip. I've noticed that the image stabilization is not as well refined or 'smooth' as the Karma Grip. One of the main reasons I decided to go with the G5 over the Karma grip was the joystick it comes with that allows you to control the direction & tilt the camera is facing. I've also noticed that with excessive motion, the G5 begins to show shakiness. I was hoping that it might have been something that could've been fixed via firmware update, but for now it appears its just the way the G5 is. You have it keep it fairly still for it to work well, unlike the Karma grip which maintains superb stabilization - even under harsh shaking situations. In a way, I'm stuck with my G5 purchase (since I dropped $300), but wouldn't mind buying a Karma Grip V2 if it had a joystick. I do hope that GoPro does continue to invest in the Karma Grip, since they decided to give up on their Karma Drone, and that eventually additional features are made for a Karma Grip V2. On a final note, I'm really sad to hear about the difficulties GoPro's encountered in the past 2 days. I never would've thought GoPro would've considering selling itself, or even had people speculating that it may head towards chapter 11. I initially fell in love with GoPro due to your videos, and it moved me in discovering my passion of snowboarding. I then started buying into the GoPro brand, and loved your cameras so much, I seriously considered applying to work at GoPro. I believed so strongly in GoPro, that when I heard they were going public with their IPO, I decided to finally invest in stocks and go all in on GoPro. I had high hopes for GoPro, but unfortunately in the time I've had it, its lost over 90% of its value ($7+K). I guess I've always held out hope (and still do) that GoPro could've recovered and reclaimed its days of glory, but alas it seems unlikely. And with the sad news of GoPro laying off so many staff members (closing its drone division, etc.), I would've gladly lost my entire investment so no one lost their job. I know during difficult times companies cut-back on expenses and leave no one is safe, I hope you weren't impacted.

Hey man, thanks for the kind words and the note. Definitely not the best situation - and yeah we all thought nothing could go wrong! We all put all our money and trust into GoPro/stocks etc, but oh well! Life is a rollercoaster, and it's been one hell of a ride. Thanks for the continued support. All I know is I love my GoPros and don't want to see the end of providing that for everyone else anytime soon.

Hi Abe, thanks for the reply. I would definitely second you on the life being a rollercoaster comment. Thank YOU for continuing to make amazing videos, and taking time out of your busy day to reply back to us - it means more than you know! Looking forward to the next edit, and if you see Nick Woodman, tell him to keep his head up. Apple was once in GoPro's shoes, and on the brink of bankruptcy and being chopped up and sold off in pieces. If you could give Nick a message, I would ask you to tell him: "To emulate what Apple did back in 1997. 21 years ago, Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy. But then - worried that it would be viewed as a monopoly without competition from Apple - Microsoft came to Apple's rescue with a $150 million investment. Had that not happened the world may never have seen iPods, iPads, iPhones or iMacs." Now, does that need to be followed to the T? Maybe, maybe not. I don't know, maybe a modified version could work GoPro? The only thing I do know for sure is that GoPro has the talent and potential to be the next Google or Apple. It would be a shame for it to never invent the next iPod/iPhone. Many of us still have faith in him and all the amazing GoPro employees (including you!) on turning things around. Please don't let us down.

did you apply warp stabilizer on ANY footage in post? I have the karma grip and I Love it, but it definitely shows vertical movement since it's only a 3 axis and not 4 when I move forward/backward. your footage doesn't show any bounce at all. maybe it's because you're on skis, but that looks a little too smooth!

How does battery life compare? When the battery dies on the gimbles is it a straight forward swap to put freshly charged batteries in? Thanks.
@abekislevitz6 жыл бұрын
The Karma Grip lasts for about 2-3 hours of use. I am usually using it for 5-10 minutes at a time so I haven't had an issue with it dying in a day of skiing. The battery is actually not replaceable, it's internal - so you can bring an external power pack or something to keep it charging, but yah FY have replaceable batteries, and they last a long time!
@ArtsOfChris6 жыл бұрын
Great video Abe, but, what about this video where it is shown how to fix the jitter. Did you use the maximum of g5 engines? I believe that using the maximum of the motors and the "(gopro)EIS ON" the stabilization on g5 is as good as the karma grip. I hope so. Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZaXd3qga52bmbs

don't buy the Karma Karma, The Feiyu tech is way better ( quality of material, modes, changeable batteries, possibility to let the EIS on etc..) this video is a huge fake... The Karma is their first stabiliser when FeiyuTech build them for years and for Gopro, sony, DSLR, Mirorless, smartphone etc... I had 4 stabs from FeiyuTech and all of them are perfect, don't forget that Abe work for Gopro, not only sponsored... Just watch some other test and you'll see :)
@Hentuix6 жыл бұрын
Lancelot.Drone when it comes to gimbals you should properly focus on the stabilization and not on the other features. Battery life is easy extendable with a power bank in the backpack or something. The EIS doesn't make any difference in the gimbal

There's nothing quite like watching a representative of a failing company bash his company’s competitors. As for the Karma product line: "“These factors make the aerial market untenable and GoPro will exit the market after selling its remaining Karma inventory,” said the firm in a statement.

Rory on a Bike I’m not bashing anyone. ...just showing the side by side from skiing. I was impressed with the Karma Grip performance and all people seem to talk about are specs or battery life. As I’ve said in other responses, as a filmmaker, performance is the most important aspect of a film tool like this (for me). As for the comments about the company - there’s a lot of speculation going on. I don’t know details, and I’m not going to let it get in the way of me creating content for others to feel inspired. Whether or not there’s a Karma next year doesn’t change the fact that the one available now is the best option for me to use while skiing in combination with the GoPro I have. Besides, I filmed this video a year ago and forgot I had it sitting on my computer edited. I’m sorry you’re clearly upset by something related to GoPro but I don’t have answers or a fix for you, unless you’re looking for some creative inspiration or a little positivity about life. Here are some things that Abe, who is a GoPro employee, deliberately decided to ignore in this video. GoPro is in such dire financial straits that the company is for sale and the Karma product line is being abandoned. GoPro has dropped the price of the Hero6 and the Hero5 by $100 each because the public have decided that these products aren’t worth what GoPro was asking for them. If you are actually interested in the Karma grip, despite the fact that it may not even exist next year (the whole aerial division has been closed down, with the employees out of a job), you might consider whether it makes any sense to pay full price. The price is likely to go down, and it sure isn’t going to go up. It’s important to understand that there’s a real question about whether GoPro will find a buyer, or whether it is headed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It’s very unclear what value the company has at this point, given competition, beyond its name.
