GoPro HERO 11 | Cinematic 5.3K / 10-bit | NEW YORK 2023

Kicking off 2023 in New York City! I had so much fun capturing NYC with the GoPro Hero 11. This short cinematic video was shot in 5.3K. I also included some drone shots and some of the photos taken in the video were shot on the Lumix Panasonic GH5. Enjoy the video!

Hi, can you make a video about near shots on gopro, plz ? I try to film recipies and I can't get clear and sharp images. Even when I film from above and on the postproduction I zoom in.

Hi, it's something that I can definitely build into a GoPro review video. Thanks for reaching out. If it helps, the GoPro has a minimum focusing distance of 30 cm. If you want to get any closer than that I'd suggest to film in the highest resolution 5.3K and use those extra pixels to crop in in post. Hope this helps.

Nice video mate! Would you mind sharing the settings you used? Is there a specific reason why you are shooting in 5.3K and not 4K?

Hey, thanks for watching and your comment! Appreciate it. I shot in 5.3K to have that extra bit of room to punch in if needed in post. And i find there is less loss of qualify when KZbin compressed the file. I shot in 50p for that slow motion and I’m the high bit rate mode. Hope this helps

CPL or ND Filter for everyday usage in tropical country?

Depends on what you are filming.. Generally a ND filter. If you're specifically filming through windows etc then a CPL.

No! You can however film in 5.3K and crop in in post. Also, it helps when you use the narrow field of view. Hope this helps

@@david_walsh wow! I'm surprised its all GoPro! Actually, I got confused noticing the decent shallow depth of field here in the shot 1:17 when I thought the aperture on this camera is around 4. But I checked now again, and its definitely 2.8, which is now making sense. Recently, I also got myself this camera, and now realizing, its not the camera, but the wrong settings I've been using 😂 Thank you again for the answer. Keep posting! ✌💖

Hi, could you pelase at least guide me to the right direciton of learning how I can make my GoPro videos look like yours? I've just finished setting up my GoPro and the videos are all shaky, no stabilization, poor quality and Idk what to do. I got a HERO11 Black. Maybe if you could give me a hint or two on how to fix this, or what I might be doing wrong.

Hey, if you haven’t fixed it yet try the following.. set you camera to 5.3k 50fps ( slow motion helps with smooth shots) turn on hyper smooth stabilisation and make sure to set your bitrate to high. Also make sure to set shutter and iso to auto so that the GoPro can choose the best settings for the best stabilisation. If this is set to a certain value and you shoot in a low light situation for example, the GoPro has to compensate but can’t. Your stabilisation will then suffer and will result in a lot of shakiness. I personally also set the sharpness to low and shoot in a flat colour profile. I hope this helps.

I shot in 50p and chose the flat picture profile so that I could colour grade better. Make sure to set the bit rate to high.

Hey Ash, Thanks for your comment! I shot everything in 5.3K at 50fps, flat colour in the linear field of view and the the stabilisation set to hypersmooth. 10-bit and shutter to auto. Hope this helps

Awesome stuff mate. Really good videography and pictures. Great color grading. Here’s my 2 cents how you can up your game: Have a story. New York is endless. You can pick a small thing and make a story out of it. For example, architecture in New York. And then make a video which progresses from what was built ages ago to what was recently built. Just a small example. And have a small voice over or just simply text. That would be next level if paired with your videography. Secondly. Just let the shots sink in. You have a great pair of shorts. Instead of switching them quickly, let them simmer. I was appreciating the puddle reflection but you switched it too quick. Reserve the quick ones for a carousel or when doing an action, like opening a door or putting a bag on or something. You’re 80% there mate. But that 20% of storytelling is what brings everything together. I’m not a director or anything but these are things I learnt over the years watching Casey Neistat and the reason why he’s so famous. It’s the storytelling
