GoPro Hero 12 New Features and Rumours Leaked

The Brand New GoPro Hero 12 has leaked and it looks to have the 1 Inch sensor and features 4K resolution at 240fps. It looks like the GoPro 12 release date is set as early September.

i think GoPro Hero 12 needs something like 1" sensor or 1/1.2" and 6k30 just to say they have it... however i do agree the 4k240 would be insane! (nice vid btw!)

Agree on that, it's just a joke that 3 releases with the same formfactor are suffering from the same issues. Higher framerates and resolutions are only causing to generate more heat. The formfactor of the last 3 editions have proven not being able to handle this generated heat. So if they can't solve it with software or adjustments in the internal hardware, then they should maybe had looked to make changes in the externals. While bringing out more heatsinks to the outer shell might already help without suffering from it's water resistance. Or even making certain outer parts from lightweight metal, like the sides which will not be that easily damaged on a drop then. It's obvious that they need to see how to reduce generated heat or how to transmit this to the outer shell more effectively.

I get the feeling that GoPro and DJI are going in different directions. The GoPro 12 will have higher quality image but dji could be better in low light as they have increased the relative pixel size by going for a 10mp sensor.

@@Rush-Media I use GoPro versions 9 and 11. When using the Media Mod, the cameras temporarily lose the connection to the MM and thus also to the external microphone. This insecurity is difficult for me to accept. A repair request revealed that the MM is said to be working properly.

lol 4k 240 on an SD CARD? So each frame has abysmal bitrate. This leak seems flawed on a number of levels....

Perhaps we will have an increased bitrate. Also bear in mind we're dealing with h265 which is a higher quality compression

@@Rush-Media I'm basing that statement off H265 from the 11.. 10 bit 60-120 fps can already get soft on the 11 especially if not using LABS. LABs can help but I just struggle to see how 240fps will be able to get where it really needs to be without being soft. SD cards are ultimately the limiting factor here, Unless they offer a V90 interface. At which point the media prices get little nutty.. But TBH I'm happy to be wrong.. I think the 1" Sensor is most likely.... The other stuff.... I guess we shall see.

Fix the Over Heating issue. Want to shoot continually, external battery, 4k 120fps in the Florida summer, no wind. Start by making case WHITE.

I think this could be helped with software. When the dji action 3 started to overheat it would automatically disable features to cool the unit down. With the gopro 11 you have to do this manually (turn off gps, hypersmooth etc)

It's kind of a catch 22. We can have better features but risk of overheating. Or lower quality footage and no overheating. Personally I prefer to have the option of higher quality and know which options to select to avoid overheating
