Hey Rush Media, As a tech addict, I have to say the YT community that I’ve been watching of late between GP and DJI is so subjective and emotional based. Appreciate you keeping it real. Anyhow I own both brands and had the opposite experience as others hating on GP to point of blind and asinine and loving DJI to blind and asinine (only from my opinion listening to all). Here’s are some examples: - complain about the live view from GP which they had it before and removed it, probably from other consumer feedback or whatever pressure. Now it’s back on 12 and the reviewers are saying it’s a “minor update or don’t even mention it or if mentioned, it was there before and removed and so they’re pissed me off and no big deal.” How about “they finally listened to consumer feedback and put it back in on the 12” - another one, DJI did not have GPS on A2 and 3 and finally put it on 4 and get praised and saying GP12 doesn’t have it. As opposed to the consumers cared so much about battery life when DJI had 1770mAh and GP had 1720mAh batteries respectively so it came down to power management through hardware and/or software. In this case, reviewers had compared a non-GPS (A2/3) vs GPS (10/11) and call it a win. If I were GP, I would not listen to “consumers who say one thing and do another way” but to give options to “enable or disable” as per use case. I don’t use GPS so it doesn’t bother me. And if I did want to use it, there’s a hack software called Myk but not sure if they’re still in business. They give you all the telemetry data you need. For battery management, use the power modes that GP seemed to follow Sony between standard and high temps and you will get improvements. Anyhow, would like to see reviewers provide more objective buyer’s guide such as: - when should you upgrade from same brand - when should you switch from one brand to the other - how are new features applied in real world - what are historical patterns from the brands to consider and/or avoid Something along this list. Following the first beginning statement above, I started using DJI action cams as below and my experience has been what many complained about GP: - A1: different body, new user experience that focuses on ease of use and reliability. Thumbs up! - A2: paid the full monty $529 then prices dropped to below $300 due to attacks on overheating, etc. but as a A1 user, need to buy all new accessories; - A3: price dropped but had near out of focus issues due to poor QC compliance but they never publicly apologized. Those who returned once or twice (like me) and got ignored after 2 times and the YT reviewers hide this fact away, maybe well paid by DJI as it’s blatantly obvious. And ex-GP uses hated GP so much they were willing to average down as the A3 was a repackaged A2 which had video specs of GP9 in 2020 but consumers were celebrating as the best action cam. Very misleading to say the least! Two wrongs doesn’t make a right and as consumers, why are we averaging down? Be fact based driven Note: As an A2 owner, A3 had a software update to upgrade to 10bit and A2 never got it when paying $200 more. Not a single YT’er or social media mentions this. Again, misleading. Where is consumer protection intervening here? And DJI changed body again soI need to spend more on new accessories; - A4: finally same body but changed to bigger sensor size which doesn’t make low light useable but calling this best action cam and hiked prices up from $329 to $429 and now dropped to $399 under GP12 new lower pricing. As a sub, you can get GP11 + bundle for $299 the week before 09/06 launch but afterwards GP12 is $299 in US and in Asia where I was working, $249. No brainer to upgrade from GP10 to 12. Haven’t seen most YT’ers talk about this as either they have been paid by DJI and/or they hate GP so much that if mentioning fact based new benefits from GP might contradict their criticism of GP and/or they’re just so emotionally biased from their own bad experience. GP, you have “negative brand equity!” Fix it or hire a proper QC and PR firm! Anyhow, let’s keep things fact based and less about opinions/emotions/previous bad experience and qualify the opinions or comments vs facts and not mix and confuse future buyers with user error experience such as taking an action cam and shooting inside for studio work and says it overheats. Turn off all the BT, GPS, wifi, remove battery and plug into wall power and add a fan and you can shoot for a long time without overheating. Is it a pain, yes? But use a proper indoor camera like the Osbsot Tiny 2 or new Air and you can live stream. Or who shoots 60/120fps at 4K for hours and says it overheats with a small form factor, enclosed and waterproof. DJI allows it to pass the handling safety issue as why UK and other EU required A2 to disable high temp. US doesn’t regulate this strictly for some reason until a lawsuit happens. For overheating issues, read a little about thermal physics or management and we know all electronic devices will come to: 1) protecting longevity of electronics: so shuts down to sustained high temps; and/or 2) electronic components from being overworked accordingly to their specs so it shuts down. Other components may be able to run hotter but need to respect the lowest common denominator; and/or 3) create artificial timers like Canon did with R5 early on to protect their cinema cam line Sorry for the TLDR! Keep up the good work and content!

@@voluntarypropaganda, ah man! Sorry to hear that. Was on a rant and too long winded. Glad you got value out of it. My point was irrespective of our bad experience (which shouldn’t be dismissed), we should qualify saying “based on my past bad experience I won’t buy another GP, but it doesn’t change the fact that they have HDR video and DJI doesn’t” or “GP stills (if on a pinch) is nice and DJI has ways to go to catch up on this”, etc etc. or “GP needs to improve vastly on ease of use and reliability as it matters to my use cases before investing back” If I were a new buyer, I would buy blindly because all these YT are raving abt DJI (and don’t disclaim that they have been paid or have some sponsor arrangement). I am sure GP did that early on and knew that was sustainable. Anyhow, new buyers should be agnostic and be loyal to your needs and be super informed to all these biased social media that is so misinformed and mislead. I use both brands and have gripes on each but also have workarounds and know each limits. But qualify for my own experience from GP7/8/910, no issues at all. With DJI, A1/2/3, only issue was the A2 being out of focused and how DJI handled it or didn’t handled it and their inconsistent pricing: low on A1, high on A2, low on A3, high on A4 so expect lower at A5 trend

They were testing and comparing the new A4 with the older Hero11 4 weeks ago already. When there was even no news nor specs available of the new Hero12. Can't take that kind of people or channels verry serious, it's just all for clicks and the likes. So you may wonder how honest they are with hands on reviews now. And there're a lot of DJI or GoPro fanboys/fangirls amongst them which seem to like to see fail the other company. A lot of them might be sponsored aswell... But both the Hero12 as also the Action 4 seem to be some "patched" editions to keep the "action cam war" going and generate some new "fame" and income.

True I miss gps in the hero 12 . And battery life is still the same trash . I don’t recognize any improvements even without the gps . For a day in the Bikepark I need 3 battery. Same as the hero 11

Paying over $300 for a software upgrade??? With old sensor and old CPU??? This is disappointing. Besides the bluetooth I see no innovation with this GP12

I always had GPS disabled on my Hero11, and it was also overheating. So I'm not verry sure if removing GPS will have any major effects on overheating or battery life VS disabling it... The power usage and heat generation should be minimal with integrated hardware but without being activated. If not, then it sounds more like their engineers did not such a great job. So sounds more as a marketing fairytale...

I do wonder if it is cost cutting, they also no longer include the case in the package too... to give the benefit of the doubt, inflation is probably behind this

@@Rush-Media You mean the black hardcase with the zipper? I've send in my Hero11 lately, and I just got a new one returned within just a cardboard box with a cardboard inlay :P But that doesn't sound verry positive... Totally removing the GPS unit could have been also a way to cut the costs yes. And then just claiming like it's for saving the battery... I don't believe it makes a whole lot of difference in power consumption between a camera with an de-activated GPS unit and the same camera without a GPS unit. So mostlikely they have just tempered the firmware a bit by lowering processing or rendering and claiming that decreased power consumption comes from the removed GPS unit, but that the actual reason is cutting the costs. The only actual physical changed thing about the Hero12 seems to be the outer skin with the blue dots, which I actually don't like that much... I'm about going to sell my Hero11 and abandon both DJI and GoPro. Maybe I'll go for the Insta360.

I'm a software developer. I don't understand why people don't recognize the value of software updates. Software updates can also be expensive. Cameras are reaching their limits in terms of hardware, unless some company introduces completely new technology.

It is a shame and a scam to release firmware updates as a new camera!!! :( To just do as Nikon does with Z50, Z30 and Zfc is better and more fair to customers. What Nikon does is also give firmware updates to older cameras if the camera is capable of it. So if there is nothing inside (past of GPS) that have changed between the Hero 12 and Hero 11, and only firmware ... To me it is really bad custom policy and nothing but a scam!!! The difference between the Hero 10 and 11 was not huge, but enough to make it a new camera. I sure hope there are other things inside that made it a new camera. And I am not talking about the foot that now have a tripod screw in it ... that piece should be sold as spare part for Hero 9, 10 and 11 ... Maybe they changed cooling system inside overheating issues if so then maybe that is why the processor now can handle more calculations? I have today two Hero 10, but am still considering an upgrade to Hero 12 ...
