GoPro Hero 3 (Silver) Review with Sample Footage

Hi not sure if you have realised this by now or not but I just thought I'd let you know that the reason the "protune" setting looks less vibrant and less sharp is because this setting turns off all of the in camera auto editing processes (like auto sharpening and colour saturation). This is so that people with professional video editing skills and post production editing software can manipulate the video more easily without it already being "tampered with" by the in camera systems.

It is, I'm not sure if you already have a 2 if the 3 is a necessary upgrade though.

This I know about. Resolution is a technical term referring to how many pixels the camera can capture. It would be impossible for a case to alter this. It may improve clarity, but it cannot increase resolution beyond whatever the camera is limited to.

GoPro advised me to re-format the card - I did and it works - so far. This was a PNY Class 10 - they were out of SanDisks at Best Buy. I've ordered a SanDisk which also has 30% faster read/write specs than the PNY we'll see if that's noticeable.

nice video i have a couple questions , is this the silver or white camera? would i need a better case for shooting a video while paintballing? and last question what is pro tune and what factor does it play in resolution wise? please respond asap, thank you.

True, that was for the 2, my bad. It wont change the resolution though? Good news on the waterproofness of the 3 though. As I say, never knew as I never looked in to it. I could clearly see it would cope with rain, that was all I was after.

No, when you buy the LCD screen, it should come with a new back cover for the case... so then it will fit.

no PT he meant no Pro Tune. It basically removes all the automatic color correction that the GoPro uses.

I would say it's rain proof. I think there's a special case for if you want to use it when diving and water sports.

I think Pro Tune is kind of a video equivalent of RAW photo's. I think it's only really useful for post production changes, which I've never had the need to use. Visually I don't think I see a difference.

The housing will change the resolution. i have seen video comparisons and the difference is big. on the diving housing the lense is flat and on the orginal its not also its better on the dive housing.

WiFi connection looks great! Good point about the 4K thing. I prefer the PT in daylight and No PT night. Pity about the turquoise/ blue traffic lights. Nice one though.

No need really when you can use the screen on your phone. If you really want one, I think the ones from the Hero 2 work on this.

No use of 3G that I know of. It tries to load video of the day or something, but it should connect to the GoPro fine I would have thought as it uses just WiFi for that.

It's only for the gopro hero and hero 2, not 3. And it's only to give you a higher resolution. You dont need it to dive...

The quality of the SD card is definitely a big factor. I'm about to send one back that I think is the cause of it breaking off recordings early.

I'm not sure, what time in the video do I say 'no PT'? Are you saying once it's uploaded to your computer, the video it's self glitches? Sorry, I don't know what would cause that. Have you tried different resolutions?

Have you been successful at taking time lapse shots? My H3 Silver hangs up and the only way to unfreeze it is to remove the battery and re-insert. I sent an email to GoPro support...

I'm going to pretend you didn't ask what colour it is. Hmm, couldn't tell you what case for Paintball, It should be okay in the standard. Pro tune means higher bitrate, doesn't change resolution.

I don't do any diving or anything else that would require me to know if the case is water proof so I've taken a guess. (Also, one of the cases (as there are two) has a huge big gap in the back, this is the one I often use as it allows better sound. This wouldn't be water proof) Also, I've not actually said anything wrong, if it's waterproof, it will be rain proof as I said. To say "you don't know anything about your camera" is a rather huge exaggeration that simply makes you look a dick...
