GoPro Hero 7 Durability Test! What will BREAK a GoPro?!

I've been saying how durable the GoPro Heros are for the last couple of years. Well now its time to put it to the actually test.
Today we're going to conduct a few drop tests, water tests, and some extreme situation tests to see how durable the GoPro Hero 7 is and then after that to see what it will actually take to break it.
I'm pretty excited to mash this GoPro up abit so lets get into it!

Even though it's durable I recommend if your doing fast activities or things like rock climbing or anything like that I would put it in the clear case just so it last longer. I have 6 and it has saved mine

Plus you don't get a mount with it Plus you don't get the durability and water resistance. By the time you'll buy all accessories to match the GoPro's features -- it'll cost at least the same if not more

I’ve run my GoPro over about 3 times in tractors that weigh about 7 tonnes while in the frame and suction cup mount and nothing has broken at all. Not even a crack in the mounts or casing and GoPro still works with zero problems

OMG TEDD, I'm at work watching this, and I'm ROFL!!! That poor camera, you took it to hell and back, BUT it was still recording, now that's saying something??!! Not being able to replace the lens or LED is a total bummer, so it's not much good. I had my GoPro Hero 5 mounted on the back of my bike, i was doing around 60km/h when it fell off the mount due to me being an idiot and not checking the mount. Nothing broke tho, just a few scratches on the corners but it was fine otherwise :D

Though I wouldn't recommend to buy the GoPro White to anyone, it still seems quite durable. Well, that's at least one point, I guess. Maybe you could try one of the Yi cameras in the future for these tests.

Hi just wanted to point out that when you were doing the indoor talking head section of your video there was a noisy halo on top of your head. @6:03 onwards...

EDIT: I paid some more attention to the video. It's not just over your head, there is some weird noise on the left side as well. I don't really know what that could be. My only guess would probably be high ISO if it was set on auto and it is mainly happening on your blue background light. I would be very interested to know what this could be though. Once again a great video, as always!

I think it’s a combination of color, low light, and the lut on top of it. It happens where there are shadows from items. I think if I had a brighter light in the background it wouldn’t do it.

@@TheEverydayDad It probably still shouldn't have done it. Did you upload this in 4K or 1080p as the highest quality available at the moment is 1080. Could it be KZbin compression or is this noise apparent in the exported file sitting on your computer as well? Furthermore, do mind telling me what camera you shot this on? If I were to make an educated guess I would say that this was shot on the Sony. Sorry if I'm being indiscrete in any way, it's just that the rest of the video is super clean so it's really strange. It could very well be the lut you have applied for those specific color combinations.

It was shot in 1080p. And the outdoor scenes were on a Sony a5100 with the 28mm f2 lens and the indoor part was done on a c200. I think it’s the low light with the purple combined with the lut I’m using, I’ll have to mess around with my background lighting some more.

One thing about ALL GoPros ..... The casing membrane around the on/off switch goes in the end. Mine cracked after a two years on the GoPro Hero 5 and I was left with a silver, metal on/off switch underneath. So now the casing is no longer waterproof. Basically, the rubber casing goes brittle. That’s all of them!

I have a gph5b and deep 6 it for a say while surfing had 2 hours of footage of it recording on ocean floor a surf fisherman found it the next morning in a tidal pool the next day. Camera still working now no problems. Now a go pole bobber is junk

Before I ever owned an action cam, I used my Canon camera for the same uses. There were a couple of times I was following a Marathon race on my bike when my camera fell off my handle bar mount and went bouncing down the pavement. (yikes!) To my surprise, the Canon camera always worked afterwards, despite dents and scratches. (whew!) I was lucky, cause standard cameras are not made to take that sorta abuse. As for your video, it was unique. Not many people test their action cams to the point of destruction. It would be costly venture to do the same test on every new action cam you buy. However, it is a feature everyone wants to know.

Yeah its a pretty important thing to know especially when it comes to action cameras. We might start doing this more often.

@@TheEverydayDad Real life situations make the best tests. Put the cameras in situations where people may actually use them, and then test to see if they break when things go wrong. Skateboards, basketball hoops, hockey nets, falling off bike helmets. Just a few examples. But again, it can get expensive when you are purposely trying to break a new action cam. That's why almost nobody does those tests on youtube. For the record, I have recorded video of me spiking a volleyball straight at my action cams. They were in their protective cases so no damage was done. And the slo-mo clips looked pretty good.

Don't forget to mention GoPro Plus subscription, which allows for up to two camera replacements each year for any reason. Even if you just want to drop your GoPro from a ladder onto concrete 😋

At close to 3m which is what you did almost nothing is drop tested or certified including tough phones - such tests would make more sense if the gopro was inside a case and we would be checking if it's still fine once the outer casing breaks. So it's hard to learn anything from this video - we already know it's waterproof, that is well documented; we know it can survive small bumps but how many times can it be dropped from the kind of height at which one would be holding it while operating the menu or accessories? This we still don't know.
