Thanks for the review always appreciate an honest review. I love my DJi Osmo Action but that was because I use the DJI drone and wanted to make it easier for editing and colour grading. Both are great cameras and you can’t go wrong with either.

I'm watching this on a well calibrated Samsung Q90r TV and I gotta say, that video quality is borderline breath taking! If that's how the Hero 8 looks with no color correction, then damn, I think it might be worth the price! I really disagree with the price tag for the whole kit, but the video quality is just,,,,WOW! Good job man.

Thanks for another great video. I am just about to buy the 7 black or 8 black and I’m struggling to decide on which. The difference in price here at the moment is only £30. I worry about damaging the lens on the 8 and the flimsy looking bracket bit at the bottom. You’ve used the 7 too haven’t you? Is there much difference between the 2 video quality wise? I like the time lapse feature. I know they both have it. Is it considerably better on the 8? Thanks

Agree. Prefer to use my handphone at night. But GP8 great discreet product. Especially if you hook it on to the gopro bag. Another feature is you are able to extract stills using software (not extremely sharp but ok also depends on fps and lighting) . Great review thanks.

What was the ISO settings at the night shooting? If you had ISO 100 I can understand the darkness, but GoPro 8 can go up to ISO 6400, so for me as a photographer would go up to ISO 800 or 1600 for brighter images..

All samples shown in any video are filmed on Auto mode because most people wouldn't know how to change the ISO or what the ISO is :)

Decided on this one over the Brave 6 plus. Akaso isint selling them in Canada until September, too bad, I had a 20% off student deal...total cost likely around $200 with external mic...BUT! I found a local go pro hero 8 black used once with the “holiday bundle” (2 batteries, 32gb sd card, head strap, selfie stick/Tripod) for....$275 Canadian in box!!!! Can’t say no to that, I’ll order a hero 8 foam windsock for $18 and skip the media mod! What a steal! Also I believe the next 24 hours go pro has their hero 8 black’s on sale using code “Summer” for $279 usd...not quite as good a deal as mine at $205 usd...but still pretty good!

I'm sorry but if you look for deals (which come up fairly regularly) you can get this camera cheaper than 400. I got mine for 350 and it came with the mini tripod vlogging stick, extra battery, 32GB high bitrate V30 card, head strap mount and clip mount. I couldnt even get the hero 7 by itself for that cheap. FYI, I love this camera!

As of March 2, 2023, GoPro is selling the Hero 8 Black directly for US $199.00. Best Buy has it for $199.99 both online and in local stores that still have some in stock. For the money, I think this is probably the very best deal one can get on one of the better quality action cameras. I finally stopped goofing around with budget cameras and bought a Hero 8 Black at that price. I recently took a cheapie action camera on a once-in-a-lifetime, family ski trip only to discover the batteries were dying on me within 5 to 60 seconds, even with the batteries and camera kept in an inside coat pocket to keep them warm. From what I have gathered, about the only genuinely reliable way to get good action videos on a snow covered mountain is to use original GoPro batteries in an original GoPro camera. I wish I’d come to this conclusion a couple weeks ago, but at least was able to get a few videos on the trip using my iPhone.

Nice review! Question...since you've been using it for 6 months, how has the reliability been? Many have reported major stability issues and even the GoPro 8 failing to save video footage to the card even though it appeared to have kept recording. The GoPro 8 seems to have a lot of great features but if you can't count on it to actually record video reliably every time...its a NoPro to me.

I think one of the best cheaper cameras is the Yi 4K+. I still use mine for many videos. If that's too expensive I would check out the Akaso V50X

​@@RedskullPro I saw the v50 pro and v50 x, what I liked on the X is the EIS quality, on the pro it's not that good but footage quality is much better without the purple fringe, as well has 20mp, the V50X has 16mp and purple fringe on the footage.. Both come with great accessories. Also V50X has an option for an external mic, whereas the Pro doesn't but does have a better sound quality (can this be changed and have an external mic once firmware upgraded?) The YI I see has a great footage but the EIS isn't so good... I am literally confused.

Cool vid, A question regarding fps and shutter. Ive heard that your shutter should be double your fps but but on a sunny day when setting shutter to double the fps whether its 120 or 240 it makes the image very bright and washed out. Setting shutter to auto always helps. Is this normal? Thanks.

I personally just use Auto Mode on all action cameras when filming outside. That's normal for all cameras.

im still looking into purchasing an action cam but when recording video on a dslr camera for example whenever the conditions are bright you must raise your aperture, the fps and shutter will stay set and shutter double whatever the fps is, the aperture will allow you to adjust for the lighting

Those are some beautiful videos and photos. I got the hero 7 recently. The fact that the glass on the lens of the 8 cannot be replaced(if damaged) was a deal breaker. Also the captures in hero 7 looks very similar to 8. So I got the 7.

Nice video as always. IMHO Gopro 8 is a waste of money. With that amount of money i bought an Akaso V50X, an external microphone and extra accessories and a used Sony a6000. I can have much much better pictures, much better video even in low light and an action cam that takes decent video that i can improve it even more using software. That's my personal taste of course. I guess that some people (probably younger than me) use only action cameras and they want the best for their needs. The good news is that nowadays us consumers have more choices.

What bothers me is that the GoPro company and people that are in charge of the you know the computer taking people well they can make this other batteries last longer they can make it so that you know you can store more on it or whatever that's called I'm not tech-savvy but I mean my cell phone I can record for a very long time on that more than an hour and so why can't they make the GoPro do the same thing that's my only beef about that.. they know because of the name people will buy the GoPro even though they're getting not as good of a retail value as say even your cell phone you pay the same amount of money for your cell phone you do for these GoPros and you know and you never have to worry about the battery or anything like that so we are fools up by this stuff because they're not catering to our need what catering to theirs
