I feel the need to congratulate you for one of the first real unbiased reviews I watched in a very long time. Thank you. I have one and I love it, mainly for the inconspicuousness of it in my helmet mount. Good quality image. if I could only use a outside mic... nevertheless well worth the 219 euros it costs nowadays.

Mr. Forbes, I'm James Williams, a novice videographer/filmmaker. Nice video, nice presentation and a good review. There were a few redundant observations, but your overall critique of the little gopro was actually fairly nice. I watched other reviews for the same product that were scathing, unrealistically harsh and extremely biased. One young fella was overly judgemental with his review and interjected so many personal biased and very negative viewpoints about the camera. He didn't do any reviews on the addon features such as the software for smartphones, or the additional features that came with it. He hated the gopro from the get-go and didn't really offer a full review of the camera's shooting abilities. Yes, it doesn't shoot in the same high resolution as the other gopro camera, and yes, the image quality sharpness is a tad bit diminished. But, the camera for what it is, is not too bad a little unit at all, and it does shoot in what's called "Broadcast Quality Imaging." The overall tonal quality straight out of the box is pretty good. The color saturation is very good, not over or, under-saturated, and the video image quality despite it lacking super crisp sharpness, is also excellent for what it is. I like that you prefer to use a tripod for your shoots. So do I. I'm not the most steady handed person in the world and my handheld shoots are atrociously bad and extremely shaky, so I will always resort to a tripod for the bulk of my video filming. I was pleased that you offered and posted the link for "DaVinci Resolve." I'm always looking for ways to improve my videos. I'm mostly broke with limited finances, so anything free is a good bargain for me to watch out for. I think that some of your comments were a little biased, but they were honest and straightforward without being too critical of the little hero session4 camera. I own one. My wife bought it for my christmas present. I am looking forward to launching and 'test-driving Davinci," to see if I can get some useful improvements to my videos. Peace and be well. James Williams

To be fair, there have been firmware improvements to the Session since it came out. A lot of people hate it, but for what it does - I really do think its excellent.

I got one for Christmas and have tinkered with it for the past few days. So far I am impressed with the sound quality. I was kind of expecting a tinny, echoing sound on playback but instead I got a nice rich sound. I love the phone app and will be trying out the DaVinci app for editing. I just ordered this camera a few days ago and heard, yesterday, that it shoots "terrible" quality video. After seeing your video, however, I'm now thinking that the people who said that were either super picky or not very good at filming or editing, because the footage you took looks pretty good for a "low-end" action camera. Ted, I feel like your complaints are valid, however, I don't think you're taking into account the purpose of this camera! It's really designed to stick to your chest and run, showing everything the person wearing it can see. It's useful for other things, but very limited beyond action, POV and wide angle shots.

Thanks, succinct and informative review. The only thing I would disagree with is your complaint about having to buy additional accessories to mount the Session to tripods, etc. I see the GoPro (all models) as a system camera which, like most high-end DSLRs, has a wide and varied range of add-ons that extend the use of the camera into specialised areas. You don't have to buy them all but having the choice is, in my opinion, a big advantage of the GoPro over other action cams.

I just got the hero 4 session 3 days ago and love it , the image quality isn't as good as my old hero 1 and 2 but the mic is great and I can stick it anywhere on my bike , I've yet to try the various settings so image quality might well improve , nice un biased review mate ;)

I'm not inclined to do much video (I've always been a stills shooter), but a product of that size is actually interesting. Especially if you can mount it to the hot shoe on your camera and do a bit of combined shooting (I've seen it used to great effect where "photos come alive"). Will have to keep an eye out for a deal on that sort of thing when it is time to upgrade the camera equipment...at some distant point in the future! ;-)

I still say that the best camera build GoPro ever came up witg was the Hero Session design. If they brought it back with hypersmooth and the foldable fingers, it would kill the market. It's already waterproof and rugged, and its size allows more aerodynamic and universal mounting options. This camera is still one of my favorites.

So, I really liked the review. It helped me a great deal. I've borrowed a Hero4 Session from a friend. I've prep'd myself by downloading Davinci. However, ALEX 4D Wide Angle Fix is not compatible with Windows. It seems from what I can figure out, it's MAC based. Or, am I missing something. If it is MAC, what is the Windows Version you'd recommend?Thanks

Well personally I feel that the beeps don’t matter it depends on what your filming as I’m a motocross filmer/rider often when I’m on my bike it’s difficult to tell if the GoPro is recording especially since I’m not carrying my phone I will try to listen for the beep as I’m on a dirt bike

You can access the protune menu straight from the camera by pressing both buttons together repeatedly like 10+ time. It sounds crazy but absolutely works.

Nice overview. I've been using my Session to do cycling video, where the ultra wide view actually helps with mounting location choices. However, I wish there were better filter mount choices (ND or Polariser) and some sort of lens adapter for a narrower view. Perhaps that will change with the Hero 5 Session.

+Kyser Soze If you can't shoot, how does that fix the problem Go pro has? You can't shoot what go pro shoots with 15 fps 4k. Not saying Go pro is better, but 4k 15fps does not fix NoPro. "Smallest 4k Life Camera" on mokacam website is kind of marketing gimmick in my opinion. No one ever liked 15fps video at all. I think SJCAM m10+ can actually fix a few problems Go pro has since it can actually shoots 2k, which gives you a little bit more room to fix the distortion.

Really good detailed review :) im getting a Hero4 Session today, as of xmas i've had to replace my Hero+LCD twice due to faults and a Hero+ once also due to faults and also a Hero3White which overheated last weekend right before i was about to use it at a festival. so this will be my 5th go pro since xmas and tbh im getting a bit sick of taking them back but hopefully this will do the job right

I use the session for all my edits and it does a good job. Recently, however, the footage has become very grainy with an abundance of unwanted artifacts. I don' know if this is a problem with the camera itself or if my SD card needs replacing. Anyway, nice little review.

Just picked a brand new one up for 90 pounds. It's all hush hush but for people looking for cheaper ones on a tighter budget look for second hand good condition. Minimum accessories as you can buy them new for very cheap on websites. Generally look for just the basics to get going. I may be wrong feel freee to critique me but it's just what I found to help me get one cheap at 90 GBP or around 125 USD

I don't know if you are familiar with the session 5 or the yi 4k, if you are, I would kindly ask you for an opinion between one of the two, assuming they have the same price.
