Love this video! I think I'll try this teaching technique with a friend of mine who's new to rolling. Thank you!

Simple, effective way to teach the roll, not only showing how to roll, but how to teach. Great 5 steps that show progression for success (having success at each step before progressing, and being able to go slow or go back insures success, even if they don't get it all the first time.)

I'm not great at it, but... I have ALWAYS done a sweep roll like that while leaning back at the end. ANd all the "experts" told me I was wrong to do it that way - but it really is the easiest cuz you lift the least amount of your weight out of the water when you do it that way the c to c is freakin hard - and, you stop your momentum to do it that way - and you lift yourself out of the water at a perpendicular angle - which is super hard to do unless you can bend your spine sideways (I'm not that flexible) if you are not a kayaker, or if you never rolled, you have no idea what I just said... but if you are a kayaker who is avg or below avg at best , then you know how hard it is to do the c to c by the book

Doesn’t this set up position leave you vulnerable to rocks? I was taught to set up leaning to the side an tucked

Sorry to correct u but the movement at 0:54 sec is incorrect. If u do that up side down in the water ur paddle would be pointing down to the river bed. and not to the surface. making it impossible to roll. Hope u don't mind. as u are a world class Kayker and I am just a lowly Sunday paddler

123z3000 Me thinks E.J. knows what he is doing..............In fact methinks you are not qualified to comment on his work.......Just saying..........Don't be a hater

+123z3000 You have to realize he is not teaching the whole roll with that practice motion, that just teaches you the idea of moving your paddle to 90 degrees. Once you wrap around the kayak in the start position, and with the cocked wrist for right handed rolls, that practice motion works, as seen in her roll following it.

E.J. is the best kayak instructor and paddler that I personnaly know in Universe... He is also a very nice guy with exceptionnal positive leadership. However, I do have to agree with 123z3000 for his potitive criticism on 0:54 I also agree with John Housh comment as well. And for RAW Adrenaline, I'm a 20 years experience whitewater kayak instructor and VP of our kayaking federation in Québec, Canada. I hope I reach your acceptance criteria to be legit to comment on kayaking stuff on KZbin! Chears to all paddlers!!!
