Four years ago, I found this video. Four years ago, I began playing piano. Three years ago, I began writing my own amateur pieces. Two years ago, I began playing them for people. One year ago, I began to play whatever first came to mind. Today, I am proud to say, I have nearly reached this level of expression. Thank you, for being my inspiration. Honestly, I made this comment to pay respect and express gratitude. It really doesn't make a difference to me whether you think it's credible or not. That being said, have a nice day.

Daniel Nayebhashem this is why i’m skeptical of the people above. I’ve also peen playing for close to 10 years now, and to have this kind of skill in improvisation it would make many more than just 4 years of piano playing.

+Phillip Gibson not only that, but its mostly octaves and fast chromatics and arpeggios. It only seems impressive because it's fast.
@shenkeey
@shenkeey 8 жыл бұрын
Theodor Dalseth Yes, but in piano fast = impressive. Fast arpeggio's while not grouping them together in galloping form is incredibly difficult. Per example, that's why moonlight sonata 3rd mov. or things like revolutionary etude are way more difficult in technical sense than for example moonlight sonata 1rd mov. Even though you can argue it's more difficult for some people due to the feeling you have to put into the piece.

+DrCoke217 I've only played piano for 1 year and it isn't surprising at all to me. Don't say you've played for 8 years unless you've been practicing hard the whole time; you lose credibility otherwise. After a year of hard practice, this level of piano playing isn't far away whatsoever. In 8 years, gee, I'll probably be playing Rachmaninoff's third piano concerto (Though, certainly not doing it much justice, interpretation wise). I dislike when people talk about how many years they've been playing piano yet fail to mention that they don't practice everyday/multiple times a week.
@DrCoke217
@DrCoke217 8 жыл бұрын
+Gabriel Maisonet I do practice everyday for 8 years, but it requires more than 8 years of piano playing experience to play Rachmaninov's Concerto No. 3. Anyone can say they've been playing for a year, but it takes a while to have an understanding of all parts of music including music theory. Playing the piano for only a year doesn't grant you the right to accuse me of not practicing what I love doing with my life. A year's experience of playing the piano also does not give you credibility for criticizing anyone's skill level whether you know them or not. Have a nice day. :)

I didn't dislike, but I didn't like either. Just something bothering me. A lot of technique, but not so much actual harmony. This is romantic harmony WITHOUT the ambiguity that turns romantic music beautiful, like in Chopin, Brahms, Mahler, Berlioz, etc. When listening to it, you always know where you are, very clear, very solid, but with tons and more tons of insane technique. The biggest moment of this insane improv was the moment when he modulate from C minor to Db lydian which is in F minor, they are neighbors. Harmonic minor feels so epic though, it's a beautiful playground for a pianist with years of experience. But why doesn't he goes further? He clearly has the technique! We have 100 years of debussy, schoenberg, stravinsky. Also.. jazz, there's 100 years of the richest harmony content implanted in our minds. Why don't go further? What is holding him? I think he just wanna be accessible for the simple public and do an epic impressive thing instead of actually go insane.. that's why I didn't like, but also can't dislike because he is good. really good.

Maemi No Yume you are comparing a piece of improvisation to well written classical masterpieces i think that is a bit unfair considering he is making this up as he goes along classic music has 100's of hours put into it and this piece is made up lets see you do that please and then i will compare you to beethoven and chopin.

This is my favorite style of piano! Why? Because it is truly once in a lifetime! Never to be repeated exactly ever again. It's the truest art of letting go! Now obviously this was recorded so it can be. But when you're alone just jamming is the best! Sometimes you improv something so beautiful you wish you did record... Yet you are forced to just let it go and drift into the universe.

He is, I suppose the difference is he is so used to proper chords and progressions and the commonalities you find in piano music that he can play randomly and make it sound good, although it's not truly random. I'm definitely no great pianist but just about everything he played was recognizable, not because he ripped it off but it's just the structure almost all piano music follows.

I always wondered why this video sounded so familiar, and then I went through some old songs. I relistened to Butterflies & Hurricanes by Muse, which came out 11 years ago, and around the 3 minute mark, when piano comes in, it sounds very similar to his improv. So, now I can rest easy knowing that's where I most likely heard this before.
