GoPro's Hero 12 doesn't work in multicam mode with The Remote - how to work around it

Why is nobody else on KZbin talking about this issue? If you have a GoPro Hero 12 and you're using it in a multiple camera workflow or setup, you know what I'm talking about - it's issue with The Remote! It will turn off all the cameras, but when you try to power them back on, the Hero 12 will turn on and not reconnect to The Remote!
In this video, I'm going to show the problem, the workaround GoPro suggests, my own personal workaround, and when I think it will be fixed.

Thats interisting. In multicam my 9 worked great with the remote, but my 10 was spotty. They worked great on thier own with the remote. Its such a handy tool.

Isn't it amazing how identical hardware can operate so differently for different people? I still love the tool, but this one thing drives me nuts - and causes me to burn through camera batteries a lot faster, LOL.

Have the same problem from day 1 with the GP12. I've spoken with GoPro support over 10 times and they say something different each time. They told me v2.20 firmware fixes the problem and the "team" just informed them it's fixed. It doesn't. They said replacing my camera's might fix the problem, but there is no guarantee it will. They said you have to do a manual firmware update and it will fix it. It didn't. I just spoke with them 30 minutes ago, and they said the "team" is aware of the issue and they are working on a fix. But, there is no date or estimate when it will be released or any evidence at all they are doing anything to fix the issue. It's been 10 months. If there were working on it, they would have fixed it by now. I'm thinking they aren't getting enough complaints so they don't care. Only a lawsuit will get their attention. The GP13 will be out in 2 months, that's what they are working on. This issue will probably persistent for the 13 as well.

Thanks for the feedback - this has been my experience with GoPro's CS too... what a shame. I certainly hope the 13 fixes this - if not... it'll be time to look at DJI. Nobody else has a multi-camera remote, though - not like GoPro does with power on/off as well as starting and stopping recording. And THAT is something I use all the time!

The number of issues I've had with this camera is the lowest of any GoPro I've bought - minus the issue I laid out in the video. I highly recommend the 12!

I have exactly the same problem. Had a Hero 10 but needed another camera and got a Hero 12. Couldn't work out why Multicam mode doesn't work after power off and googling found me your video. I don't think the workaround is a usable solution.

It's kludgy, for sure. There's no 100% workaround, unfortunately. I've even been doing research on 3rd-party remotes, and none have addressed this issue, as far as I can tell. And I'm not buying up all the remotes to try them all out to find one that'll work.

The power on and connect really hasn't worked well for me even with the 10. The only way I ever get the remote to consistently work, is to leave all the camera's powered on from the time I do the multicam connect. I don't think GP ever has cared enough to make the remote connection work 100%, they just make it "good enough"

And that's the weird part, right? Same hardware, same batteries, and we have completely different experiences! I guess it makes sense that nobody else advertises multicam control from 1 remote!
