When using the chesty did you have the GoPro upside down or right side up?

I had the go pro right side up and tilted as far back (angled looking upward) as it could go, with super view on and filmed at 2k 60fps

Appreciate the video…I do find the footage a bit too pointed at ur skiis…much like the early chesty footage I shot. I find flipping the mount upside down and then angling the (upside down) camera all the way down still gives me the front 1/4 to 1/3 of my skis and also a bit more horizon then u captured.Obviously, your ski posture and terrain play a factor too-just throwing out my experience as an expert skier charging steeps.

@@bosoxmdr thanks for the comment! I definitely understand what you mean, especially in this footage in particular. I think in my more recent vids using chest mount the footage tends to be a little bit more angled toward the horizon, but honestly I kinda enjoy seeing the skis, for me it adds to the immersion of chest mount footage. Definitely still trying to find a good balance though for footage, maybe give my more recent stuff a look I'd be curious if you think the angles similarly too low. It really is remarkable how much better the chest can is for engaging footage I'm shocked I don't see it more often from the pros, might have to do with sound quality that is the biggest asterisk with it, a lot of my vids have to have the sound muted cause a zipper is smacking the camera or something haha

Can you record in vertical with the helmet mount or it's only limited to landscape? I want to shoot for my IG story and the chest mount is the only option for me or should I just get both?

Good question, I'd say it's probably more dependent on whether or not your go pro/filming device can film vertically, the mount shouldn't change the orientation of the video. That being said maybe a helmet cam would be better, since it is a farther away angle from the skis and ground than the chest mount it should get more of the view with vertical mode. Can't say for sure though I've never filmed with vertical, hope this helps somewhat :)!

Thank you I really appreciate it! I will say I'm a little confused by what you mean about lights under your ski do you mean as far as the snow looking a little blown out? It was definitely a over cast day so I had to crank up brightness and shadows in editing haha so that could be what you're seeing with the ground being just near pure white, I have newer footage luckily on brighter days though so hopefully it'll look better!

I'd imagine it'd be kinda rough if only because of the way snowboarders' form is the chest is rarely if ever facing where you're going while with skiing ideally your upper body is staying rather still and facing downhill, but hell maybe someone's made it work that'd be pretty cool!

I just used the chesty today and I have trouble capturing my skis. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? I also used superview.

Hmm that's interesting because I tend to have the opposite problem of the camera being angled too far downward, maybe angling it less far back could help? I wonder if it's a form thing as well where if you tend to ski with your torso more upright that might explain not being able to see your skis

@@theskiingram3252 i flipped it upside down today and it seemed much better. and yeah it still does not capture my skies when i stand up straight but if i bend my knees it captures my skies. do you use 4:3 setting when filming or do you just use superview?

​@@parakeet6916 nice I'm glad flipping it upside down helped! And I have that same experience standing fully upright it struggles to capture the skis, but yep I only use superview I find it works best for the chest mount overall!

What settings did you have when you had it on your helmet mount? When I record it only gets my skis and if I position it more up only gets the view and not my skis.

So I position the GoPro right side up and as far angled back (towards the sky) as possible. I also have the settings on 2k 60fps and Super view which may be the biggest help for watchability as it gives you the widest angle. I tend to not have issues anymore with angle I still use the chest mount with my recent vids and I love how it turns out, so maybe try those settings and see how it goes? Hope this helps!!

Yep! In this video there's helmet cam footage from 0:40-1:00 so it is short granted, my thinking is all my other vids are all helmet mount so I really wanted to dedicate this video to what the chest mount can do. For some good helmet mount comparison shots to this one I'd recommend my Mary Jane Full Trail vid, it has a similar speed to what I was doing in this vid and is all helmet mount. I really don't like the chest mount. All the time those hands and poles in the picture and because you automatically keep your head upright, the image on the helmet is much more stable.

I understand where you're coming from, and the helmet mount is probably more stable overall. For me though the helmet mount made fast/steep skiing look much tamer than it felt in the moment, and the chest mount translated that speed and steepness just a little better. Also the poles/hands in the shot I always thought made it look like it was a video game putting the viewer in a true POV perspective that I thought was more engaging. That being said that's just my opinion and I really appreciate the different takes and perspectives on the chest vs helmet cam!
