When my memories opened fully as 6 year old boy in 1980, the first song is probably was ,' naaney Naana yaaro Naana'... followed by allaigal oyvathilai.... I remember getting introduced to hearing Ilayaraja music in Tamil, John Williams (star wars) and Jerry Goldsmith (movies like Rambo)in English, and many music directors in Hindi, Ilayaraja will be favourite like all of his fans because I not only got to hear haunting and melodious songs, but also his outstanding and brilliant BGMS, long before internet came, I used to rewind certain scenes of movies in video cassettes to hear his BGMs repeatedly in those days itself, 1981 to 1991 (Dalapathy Guna and Captain Prabhakaran etc)is the Golden period for non stop hits for each and every Hero in Tamil cinema. Movies like Sindhu Bhairavi, Mouna Ragam, Agni Natchathiram, idayathey thirudathey, Apoorva sahodargal songs and BGM to name a few is more than enough to make Ilayaraja stand on par with any top music composers in the world. How to name it and Nothing wind album was given by uncle Mr.D.B.L Maynard on the same year it was released, it laid the foundation for understanding in depth, the power of his BGMs , my cousin sister's husband Mr Rosario echo recording had shared his audio cassettes starting from Sindhu Bhairavi 1984-85 till idhayam in 1990, these type of powerful music made be crazy and addicted to his music and it will be etched in my memory, and I am proud and happy for having Ilayaraja's composition in all my growing days, and even till as on date.... No matter how much ever western music and Hindi music I hear, I will never give up on my Tamil Heritage, that Heritage in Music is my Favourite Sri. Gnana Desikan only if I am not wrong. I thank Ilayaraja sir from the bottom of my heart. Many times in my life I thanked God for giving him in my life, will you all believe it, no wonder at a time when all would had Rajini and Kamal stills in their homes, I had stills of Ilayaraja composing stuck in the Audio System on the glass of the wooden Deck. My parents and close relatives know it... Thanks.
