@@MeandMonAmi cheers Tim, it’s great to get a tour of my old haunts. I lived there for ten years leaving i think in 1995, now live in Munich for the last 25 years. My addresses were auberge de jeunesse mt alban, ave de la republique in nice, rue droite in old nice, rue james close in antibes, rue st sebastien in biot, camping mistral at the gare de biot and before i left rue de diables bleu in nice. Your flavor of commentary reminds me of Alistair Cooks letter from America, old programme on the bbc world service. Keep up the good work and keep the tours rolling. Best wishes

Great Story, and story telling Tim,. I don't recall every hearing anything of Gordon Bennett's scandals and the mark he left. Perhaps in America he was considered a best forgotten footnote in history. Having been a balloonist, I sometimes wondered about the origins of all the French traditions attached to ballooning that continue even into today, and no doubt Gorgon Bennett must have left his mark there as well. I very much enjoyed the timeless reflection back in time, and I'm a bit curious what you make of Bennett's opulent decadence, might you find him remarkable and inspiring or shameless? Thanks.
@MeandMonAmi2 жыл бұрын
I think he was probably fascinating and utterly appalling all at the same time!
@jackoneil39332 жыл бұрын
@@MeandMonAmi Exactly! "appalling" rather than shameless, was the term that struck me while watching the show, and later escaped me when I went to comment. I think a broadcast production of your Bennett feature would be remarkable.
@happyslappy52038 ай бұрын
French traditions attached to ballooning came from the Montgolfier brothers, aviation pioneers, balloonists and paper manufacturers. They invented the Montgolfière-style hot air balloon which launched the first confirmed piloted ascent by humans in 1783, carrying Jacques-Étienne. The first decisive use of a balloon for aerial warfare was performed by the French Aerostatic Corps using the aerostat l’Entreprenant at the Battle of Fleurus in 1794.(wiki) btw great video, Me an Mon Ami! I enjoyed it very much!😀

I went to Beaulieu for a few hours. Two "ladies" dressed up as men were having a fight. One of them grabbed a glass bottle of salad dressing and meant to throw it at the other dk. Instead of course it splattered all over me. Ruined my time there. Had a much better time at Villefranche.
