" I don't know where we went wrong but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back. " Anyone who has ever loved and lost can identify with those lines. A masterpiece from Lightfoot.

Gordon Lightfoot was an honest songwriter that wrote some heartbreaking songs about his own life experiences. He wrote this song about his divorce from his wife. "Heroes often fail. And you won't read that book again because the ending's just too hard to take." 💔

Our Gordon didn't just scribble the lyrics on a napkin, with the chord changes added. He "composed" all his songs on manuscript paper (he was a schooled, educated Music School grad) - and once he got the melody line and chord progression down - he'd add lyrics (he was a bona-fide poet) - and then he orchestrated it. He "composed" - like an old-time (Bach, Beethoven, etc.) composer. He was our musical poet laureate - our Troubador - our "Minstrel Of The Dawn." He wasn't just a Canadian icon, treasure or legend. He was family. He could have headed South of the 49th - but he chose to stay here - and there wasn't one house in Canada he wasn't welcome in. He was OURS - and we were his. He was beloved - and he will be missed forever.

Masterpiece songwriting. I grew up listening to Gordon Lightfoot since the early 70's, and there's simply no bad Gordon Lightfoot song. To me, all of his songs are various levels of good to great, and they're all so well written both lyrically and musically.

I always loved this song since the 1st time I heard it on the radio quite a few moons ago. Then one night when I was driving to work in a very depressed state after my then girlfriend broke up with me I turned on the radio and this song came on and it really hit home and the song and emotions stayed with me the whole night long. This song is just so personal to me.

With Gordon Lightfoot's passing, I searched for this song and found your channel. As a born and bred American, who I lived in West Africa for nearly a decade. where that culture became a part of my consciousness, I'm amazed and so very happy that this part of Western (Canadian guy) culture translates as well. Thank you so much for your work.

This is my favorite Gordon Lightfoot song. Cyn, I received your premier notice at 2:11 my time!! :-(wtf)-: Gordon's marriage was indeed collapsing. He knew not why, The more he tried to reach his wife, to try and salvage their marriage, the more she pushed away. Leaving him gutted and bewildered. Mr. Lightfoot is the pride of Canada and a priceless gift to us all. No less than Bob Dylan stated Gordon is one of his favorite songwriters. There's not much higher praise than that. FWIW, I agree. Great reaction. You are astute and much wiser than your young years. Which I believe ticks up 1 year in the very near future :-) RNB

Nice reaction but I would have preferred that you had talked more about the production of the song. I mean the bass, the string arrangement, etc. Of course, as always, his words are magnificent. If you really want to be impressed by an artist that even Bob Dylan says is one of his favourites, then you should dive into Gordon's music. Almost anything from 1976 and earlier is worth listening to. The beauty of his poetry and the melodies along with the expertise put into every song will blow you away if you take the time to investigate him. My favourite all time song by him is The Last Time I Saw Her.

Hi my dear.... I just woke up and saw this wonderful reaction video... and what can I say ? You are absolutely right with what you said after the song. Your sum-up is - again - so lovely and on point, so that there is nothing more to say. When I listen to the lyrics, I can somehow relate to my past, as well, because I was in a similar situation for many years, although never married. And my dear, if you could read MY mind, you would find so many different things and thoughts that I have about YOU, that it would make you as happy as I am, having you as s friend. When I think about you, it makes my heart and soul smile... and I hope, you are feeling the same way, when you think about me. That's one reason, why our friendship means the world to me. If you want to explore more from Gordon Lightfoot, I would suggest "Sundown" - yet another beautiful song from him... but please do not forget my other suggestion from your last Gordon Lightfoot reaction ;: "Procol Harum - A salty dog Live in Denmark 2006", I'm sure you will also love this song very much. Hugs and kisses from your dear friend Gerry

If I could sing like the poets and kings of this world If I could rise like the wind or the tides of the sea I would sing you to sleep my love, with sweet melody And let you dream away till the morning light returned again To take you away from me If I could speak with the tongues of the masters of old If I could tame all the fleeting perceptions I hold Would I stand in the marketplace before you? To be shouted down without any warning at all, to be stood by the wall And shot by the man in blue If I could run with the grace of a sun-colored stallion If I could fly like the great silver jets in the morning If I caused the wind to change with one wave of my hand And if I could play the final symphony and set it free Would it mean anything to you?
