This song continues to please. Gordon Lightfoot created an enduring Masterpiece that crosses generational boundaries to this day. Every time I perform this song, the room gets real quiet as young and old alike are taken by the melody, lyric, and supporting chords that make up one of the greatest songs of the 70's. Thank you, Gordie!

Gordon is so special to me. I listened to him when i was in my 20's. At 56 now his music can bring tears to my eyes. Those years were the best time in my life and now, after losing so much in my current years, his songs are bitter sweet. I still listen to him, but with a wistful heavy heart ❤️ and a mourning for a life that was more simple and happy. It's strange, although i cry when i hear his beautiful voice, his music takes me back and brings me comfort. Thank you Gordon for sharing your sweet voice and musical talent. You will always be in my heart. Bless you. Xxxxx

6string - Dave I agree 100% with your very elite list. John Denver is #1 in my book. No matter what genre of music someone listens to, everyone seems to appreciate the classics from these artists. And most of it written in the late 60s to early 1970s.

Every time I hear this song I think of a time 20 some years ago sitting in a little cabin in Silverton British Columbia sitting up all night writing a letter to the girl who I went there to visit. I often wonder about her because that morning I jumped in my truck after being up all night and made the 10hour ride back home without saying goodbye.
@blair007255 жыл бұрын
@z power Not sure my wife would understand that. This girl had come out of the Toronto scene in the 90's of raves and trying to escape her mdma or better known as ecstasy addiction when we met. She left the town we had met in Alberta and got into the hippie scene in the interior of British Columbia, we stayed in touch and visited each other she coming to me, me going to her, we were great friends. This last time I visited her she called and said she needed help, financially and emotionally, "if I could just come see her" is what she said. So I went. She always told me that she would end up hurting me just like all the other relationships she had been in. That night she left her little cabin she said to go visit a friend, she never came home all night, I realized she was hoping that I would just leave and that I wouldn't be there when she came home, so I did. I realize now that she was afraid of getting to serious, but did not know how to cope or deal with it. I think she just wanted to disappear after that, her Facebook page went down, and I never heard from her again, or seen the money, even though I would have been easy to find. The money was not important, I just wonder about her safety and happiness sometimes.

Beautiful! According to the quote below, Gordon Lightfoot lost his voice. I don't think so. He's 81 years old and sings well with just a slight quaver. I have dysphonia, he sings much better than me. Gordon Lightfoot almost lost his life in 2002 when his abdominal artery burst and he was in a coma for six weeks following the surgery that saved his life. When he finally and almost miraculously woke up he could barely play the guitar and his vocal chords were so constricted his golden voice was no more.Sep 27, 2014 folkworks.org
