James Kalm has been interested in the recent goings on in the TriBeCa area for a half dozen years now. This neighborhood, south of SoHo, has become the nexus of a dynamic new gallery scene. It was while out dogging this locality that your correspondent happened upon a new enclave of galleries.
Gordon Matta-Clark & Pope. L’s “Impossible Failures” is an impressive instillation/exhibition at the new 52 Walker Street Gallery. Grouped generally around Pope. L’s large “Dust Room,” a thunderous white box that has wind fans circulating tiny plastic pellets like snow drifts inside, with much of the rest of the exhibition space as the backdrop for three Matta-Clark (1943-1978) films from the early 1970s. Interspersed are selections of drawings by both artists, some dealing with plans for other projects and themes. This program was recorded March 22. 2023. #jameskalmreport #jameskalmroughcut #lorenmunk

Food was located in Soho on the NW corner of Wooster and Prince, where I enjoyed many bowels of the hearty soup accompanied by a thick heavy slab of bread that the restaurant was famous for.

The ambient machine cacophony was actually the most exciting part of this show! Gave me that art happening buzz - where giddy crowds of art lovers are drawn in by some grand machine or another - mixing play with intellect. It feels good, b/c like a sand mandala, you know it's only to be experience right there and then. Too bad Gordon Matta Clark died so young - I'm sure it's a strong possibility that it was due to exposure to asbestos or other industrial building hazards, eh? Thanks for the video James, and thanks Kate!
