Had to respectfully chuckle at Alex Haley's open, Mike. Having grown up in *Detroit* and living on the East Coast for nearly 30 years, I've met a lot of high-profile Black folk. But, NONE of them was as gracious as the great *Gordon Parks* on his way to the Time-Life Building to check on his film processing one day in the Spring of '99. I was having lunch outside with a colleague near Radio City. I looked up and there was Mr. Parks crossing 6th Ave. So, I excused myself and caught up to him just after he made it across. When I introduced myself, I told him: "Mr. Parks, I've admired your works for years. And, I just want to shake your hand." He looked at me. Then, extended his hand and said "Thank you very much, Young Man." I don't know if he was *shocked* that I didn't ask him for an autograph or mention having seen *Shaft* a thousand times or what. Hell, for all he knew, I could've been some cat about to pick his pocket. Because I timed my approach within seconds of him getting across 6th Avenue. I will not lie. But, THAT brother's handshake exuded urbane sophistication and down-home warmth at the SAME damn time.

Yeah, Mike. That is the ONLY time I thought to myself, "Damn, I should've gotten his signature on SOMETHIN'."

Enjoyed the interesting interview. smiled when he puffed on the pipe. Remembered when my dad went thru a "trying to smoke" spell.. And remember the distinct smell of the pipe. Years ago visiting my parents I saw the pipe! I always would give stories to my sons if visiting them about items (but on the sneak tip OF COURSE) NOBODY goes into his "MAN CAVE" but thats like really saying, LET'S go in.. (grown woman..but the defiance of it all...LOL) Dad came back home..didn't hear..found the pipe then was telling kids stuff. My dad screamed...GET OUT MY ROOM...LOL..it was funnnnny! Then youngest later said grandpa, can i have your pipe??? Later that nite..i got told off..lol..my dad was like if you weren't in my room he wouldn't be asking for it. I was like you not even a smoker, you dont even need that.. Years later! It's in MY room. part of: my fam history decor Now...Sounds better than, [took from my dad's room, he didn't like it but to shut me up gave in..because my son wanted it first] (grin) But, yes back to the video while my memory slipped back for a sec.. Viewing the two was extremely appreciative!
