It looked to me like Mike was skimming at the expense of the owners. Old trick, hand out coupons, in this case 50% off, then get tipped by honest paying customers to make up for some of the bill discount, and put that money into your pocket at the expense of the owners and other servers. What a cheese. Not surprised the restaurant closed later. Poor management skills, can't accept full responsibility, hot temper, clearly a recipe for disaster. Tough to change that in a week or less time.

The Mixing Bowl closed in January 2009, which was around a year and three months after the Kitchen Nightmares episode aired. However, the restaurant had actually closed shortly before even filming the episode back in March 2007. In fact, the only reason the restaurant reopened was to be on Kitchen Nightmares. When you consider the fact that the restaurant was basically already dead in the water when Gordon Ramsay got there, it’s actually pretty impressive that it managed to stay open for almost two years after Gordon Ramsay’s visit.

I'm 80% sure that in the less disastrous US nightmares, Ramsey tries to keep it interesting by villainizing a staff member. From what we're actually shown, rather than voiceover claiming without proof, Mike has been trying very hard for years to build up business but is just quite dim, desperate, or both. We never see any proof he's giving friends favourable treatment, just that he's a very friendly host. If Gordon is just gaslighting and lying about him, his breakdown at the end makes a lot more sense too. He's worked his ass off for nearly a decade, got nowhere. Gordon turns up and simply by existing fills the restaurant, pretends it shows Mike's incompetence, lies about him and then makes sure he doesn't get the guest list until the last second to gaslight him and claim its on him. I challenge anyone to not crack in that situation. Although he did steal servers tips, screw that.

It is closed, unfortunately. It got closed 1 year and a couple of months after this episode was aired on TV, back in 2009. Still, i read that Billy is still in the food business and his business's name is Jr. Alta Food, correct me if i'm wrong. Anyway, good overall episode! Billy is a good chef and he knows his way inside a professional kitchen, so, if i was him, it'd be a major flex for me to say that i was part of Kitchen Nightmares and got to work with the one and only, Gordon Ramsay.
