Depend if they know how to strike! Two cops who know a bit of grappling but can box will finish Gordon or for that matter anyone else. BJJ, wrestling and most other martial arts teaches you how to fight against 1 person, when you change that equation then the martial art becomes nullified mostly

That’s something nobody really talks about either. You gotta be really strong as well as technical to finish even the most simplistic moves on an experienced grappler. I remember my first class of jiu jitsu and how surprising it was to hold my feet together in full guard. Takes a lot of strength and practices It’s things like that you overlook

What a love about BJJ, apart from MMA or striking sports, is that there's no puncher's chance. In MMA or striking, there's always a puncher's chance. No boxer, or MMA fighter, should underestimate their opponent too much. One slip up and you'll get Buster Douglas'ed. But in BJJ, assuming things are being taken seriously, the less skilled grappler basically can't win. That's what John was essentially saying here. Gordon Ryan couldn't lose, Andre's defeat was impending, inevitably.

One of my absolute favorite things that Danaher does in interviews is when he is asked a question and then asks for the question to be made more specific and clear. I'm not sure why... And it also just seems like something I never see anyone else do.

There are totally valid reasons to dislike Gordon, but the majority of the hate he receives is envy and resentment for his genuine power and skill, and fear before it, because he doesn't fake humility and us normal folk find unmasked power frightening. Bottom line, it's awesome to have an American GOAT who shares his techniques and is singlehandedly uplifting the general skill level in no-gi in a way that affirms there are only two people: the powerful who can impose on others and those who have no choice but to be imposed upon. Having trained for a couple years and watched ADCC live, it literally gave me chills and frightened me to see how easily he dismantled the best of the best...power is beautiful to behold

Most boring sport to watch
@lenseofclarity99972 жыл бұрын
Seriously? I guess if a person has no substantial understanding of a subject then that subject might appear boring. The two men competing here and the two talking not only understand the combat and competition aspects of this experience, they all have a superb insight into the philosophical and developmental aspects of training in this type of activity. There is little or no room for pretence or nonsense. The "honesty" of this type of experience can only truly be understood by those that have faced it. John, Lex, Andrea, Gordon: I salute them all for who they are and what the do. Good luck to you sir on your own journey. I genuinely hope you have an opportunity for similar insights. Perhaps then you might see what they do as far more than purely a mode of entertainment for the hungry masses. Entertainment is certainly a part of it. But the depth, authenticity and complexity is the essence of it : not it's value as a form of entertainment.

@@lenseofclarity9997 LOL, a regular person is not willing to sacrifice time of their life to learn this shit in order to understand basic things...Do you really think that people have a deep understanding of Soccer (most people who watch it)? It's a simple enough sport for the masses to understand and complex enough for the experts to have something to talk about. It' also not 2 roided out weirdos rubbing each other on the ground, either (which is what the untrained eye sees). This shit puts a lot of high level grapplers to sleep sometimes, let alone a regular person. The general look of it is ass, too. BJJ is a TERRIBLE spectator sport.
