Yea this is good content. Ive been preaching about Gordons mat IQ since way before anyone knew who he was. If you watch this exchange although they aren't going hard you can see Gordon is always several steps ahead. He does a LOT of what Roger used to do as well. ie: that omoplata escape, head diving in towards the crotch, classic Roger. Just insane mat IQ here. He is playing chess and most people are playing Checkers. Also note, Gordon isn't even in top shape here. Just another level.

That is some of the smoothest rolling I have ever seen. Playful even. Perfectly in zone 2 heart rate. The most maximized way to develop myelin. I had to destroy 3 blue belts at full effort (old man brown belt here) this morning. What I wouldn’t do for 45 minute rolls like that.
@launicamaneraКүн бұрын
unfortunately its hard to convince anyone to train like this at my gym no matter how conducive it looks. :/ any advice?
@DrewDarceКүн бұрын
It’s super difficult. After 16 years and as a black belt, I think it has to be cultural, and usually from the top down. If there aren’t good grapplers at your school that also grapple like this (maybe not all the time, but often enough for people to see) then that helps a lot. Or find a like-minded training partner or two, and train like this together, as much as you can. A longer route is to try and roll like this yourself even against people that don’t. It can take a lot longer to not get pushed around, and there will be many trying times, but it’s super rewarding. A helpful tip can be to not think if it as a “flow roll”. Think of it as a “slow roll”. You’re still trying to win with all of your effort, focus, and technique. But you’re just trying to drive the car under the speed limit, so to speak. This might not help at all, but I hope it helps a little bit! FWIW there’s hope, because more people are training like this than when I started training.
@kovenmaitreya7184Күн бұрын
@@DrewDarce I was doing this against people who wanted to go all out and it still seems to work out. you just end up in less dominant positions more often but you get wayy better at finding any cracks in armor no matter what people are doing (and defending your own cracks).
@stevenslawson8926Күн бұрын
Very hard to find the right training partners. After 19 years, as a brown belt, seeing hundreds of schools - it’s the rarest thing in bjj.

Roger is a 10x IBJJF champ and has 2 Adcc gold medals with a similar win and submission percentage as Gordon, plus the iconic victory against Buchecha. I think if Gordon goes back to the Gi and dominates he could overtake Roger, especially considering how differentiated gi and no gi has become at the top levels

What? Do you actually follow gi jiu jitsu? It’s arguably way harder to be the goat gi then no gi .. as The gi circuit has 100x more competitors ( no gi is just a entertainment n super fight thing where the cash is , it’s a niche..theres gi tournaments that have 10 000 competitors like jj con).. this breeds a crazy amount of competition for every major. Your also gonna be facing tons of upcoming newly promoted black belts every event like when Lucas lepri took his first loss in years to newly promoted Levi jones Leary The top gi guys fight 100+ matches through their career some hitting 200 Felipe Andrew hulk etc hitting over 250 matches Meanwhile top no gi guys barely break 10 matches a year Gi has also existed MUCH,MUCH LONGER. The technical development is way ahead and there’s been many dominant champions
