@jessehamilton180
@jessehamilton180 6 ай бұрын
I think Josh looked relaxed because he was not in a position to be explosive for much of the match. Being on bottom, he was more or less framing for his life and Gordon was doing the wet-blanket waiting for openings. Even at the end, Josh's legs were expertly tied up to limit escapes.

@TopFearless
@TopFearless 6 ай бұрын
I think you can only afford doing that if you're really technical in various positions. If you go with the flow at 40% and end up in a position you're unfamiliar/uncomfortable with, you perhaps will need to use just as much strength to get out of it as you would have used going at 80-100% beforehands

Lets not forgett Josh Saunders started BJJ-No-Gi only ~ 4 years ago . His biggest achievement so far was winning ADCC Trials in Sidney . Yeha he is good and yes he has potential but Gordon Ryan is on a whole other level being at the top of the sport for longer than Sauners has even been doing Jiu JItsu
@MrJSyer
@MrJSyer 6 ай бұрын
@@TopFearless That's it. I can't afford to go 40% or I will end up in real bad positions if I'm against someone of my level or above. But, this is a good training strategy against someone a little less skillful. You will end up eventually in bad places, but in a way you can manage to scape.
@LibertyOverDeath-27
@LibertyOverDeath-27 6 ай бұрын
@TopFearless You're right, but you also have to be very strong. Or have enough strength in reserve to negate the opponent's. You can be the most technical person out there, but if you fight someone with a significant strength advantage who knows just enough to not get immediately submitted, you're in trouble. Gordon is super technical but he definitely has the strength in reserve to match all his opponents so far.

@@MG-rm4pz Just pointing out a missed opportunity in that moment. Josh is a great grappler for the limited time he has trained. But let's have a technical discussion on what i'm pointing out. Josh nearly has 4 seconds to scoop grip Gordons left leg to either enter DHG and come out the back or use the space to enter Ude Hishigi Ashi Gatame, you can even see Gordons posted left arm is carrying most of his weight making his hips/knees light before Gordon secures Osaekomi Waza. What are your thoughts on this moment of the Shiai? If you would like I can upload a quick video of me sparring with Luke Giffith where he Sumi Gaeshi me (with ease) but I counter sweep with DHG to stay on top.

@@jimmybangs Trying to sound sophisticated does not make anyone care about your backseat coaching of a high level grappling match, nor does it prove anything about your competence, if that's what you're trying to get across. strength vs technique.

Technique requires strength applied to a precise position and time anyway, just a smart way to use strength.

So stupid comment... If that's the case weight classes would not exist... They are both strong and they have both good technique, gordon has just way more technique advantage that Josh has strength advantage... I mean try to trough any fighter against a gorilla... A gorilla has no technique yet he will win 10/10 times... Its always about how big the gap is... If the gap in strength is too big no amount of technique can save you

Ryan is the best and not even close. He makes it look easy and with little effort.

Gordon was doing 50% wearing him out for 10 minutes to tire him out and then start his end game. Gordon dont care if someone retains guard, Gordon just see it as exhausting his oponent. retaing guard is tiresome. Gordon just uses his 50% relentless pressure and then starts to go for the finish. Impressive. So calm.

I have rolled with world class grapplers while attending their seminars. Of course i got submitted during sparring by them. But seeing Gordon Ryan absolutely smashing those grapplers is kind of scary…just unbelievable.

Josh Saunders is no where near the experience level of Ryan. Gordon has being competing for more than 10 years versus Saunders "couple years" in jits. There's no comparison.

Its a catch 22......If Gordon stops doing massive amounts of steroids, his stomach gets better....but if he stops doing massive amounts of steriods, his jui jitsu suffers greatly....Dilemma

God damn it. Saunders should’ve never just accepted bottom position.. I thought he would do much more than this.. but hey he’s still young at the sport so is his age. He can comeback better 🔥

I know he’s 42 now and retired, but I’d still love to see Roger Gracie come back just for a super fight against Gordon
