I knocked on Vinny's door back in the summer of 2017 in Vegas and sold him pest control. He didn't know at the time but I was struggling to make sales that week and he really helped me out. The dude was super down to earth, I mistakenly asked him if he and Jose Aldo we're in the same weight division lol Let's continue to help others like this guy helped me cause you may never know what their current situation is. He deserves all the respect and success in the World.

@ricardowashington4447
@ricardowashington4447 6 жыл бұрын
Leglocks are like any other submission in that you have to set them up before applying them. Vinny did a good job of stopping Gordon during the setup phase. Notice how Vinny stays heavy on the bottom locking leg around 14:00 when Gordon is setting up the inside saddle. If Gordon got that bottom leg over his foot trapping Vinny's leg, that would have been bad for Vinny. By stopping the setup, he avoided the conditions under which the leg lock can be applied. Good work. The best way to beat a RNC, kimura, arm bar, etc etc etc is to avoid the condition under which they can occur. Thinking that leg locks don't work and not avoiding the conditions in which they thrive is a good way to end up on crutches.

Roddy Yang You are an uneducated casual at best. At their level, one cannot simply use force to get what one wants. It takes a combination of skill, timing, finesse, force, power, strength, aggressiveness and most of all mental strength. I get it, from your perspective, forcing subs on Blue Belts and down happens much easier and more often, but try forcing your way with one of these two gentlemen or any of their caliber and you will be the one tapping, if you have time to.

This is what makes BJJ so unique and awesome. The evolving nature and adaptation. Gordon is at the top of the leg lock game without question. He is also accomplished well rounded jiu jitsu and has one of the best back RNC subs around. I have been to seminars with him and for a young 20s he has a long time to improve. Imagine him at Vinny’s age? Now, with all due respect Vinny had a clear game plan and figured out how to neutralize what would normally be devastating leg locks. That it was points or sub only really doesn’t matter. Gordon also proved his point and he could have had he chosen changed his game easily but he didn’t for a reason. Nothing here was by accident. In the end it was just one match and you need to see the bigger picture. I for one look forward to seeing Gordon’s leg lock game evolve to address Vinny’s pressure advancing strategy. Vinny was very effective. Both phenomenal athletes. If anyone else thinks otherwise, prove it on the mat. Talk is cheap. The mat never lies!

Bilbo Baggins Didn’t won because he’s stronger . Vinny won because Ryan’s offense is very one dimensional and he doesn’t have a B game to go to. I doubt vinny even prepared for this match specifically he just did that he normally does . When you’re a true master of Jiu jitsu you have a complete game . Vinny comes with a dynamic series of moves in every position and can flow with what happens . Gordon just flops and tries leg lock , rinse and repeat. Soon everyone will stop it when he tries and he will be back to the drawing board . All the fads and trends only work so long then you gotta improve the overall game . Over the years I’ve seen the de la riva, spider guard, kimura trap, x guard ,berimbolo, and worm guard all come on he scene and devastate in competition then become common knowledge , and now they are just small parts of everyone’s game .

Roddy Yang Roddy Yang Roddy Yang I understand that it is much more entertaining to see blood or balls-to-wall rolling. However, most of the events that allow point-based wins are won on points. Think of IBJJF - most of the world championships are won on points and/or advantages. It is only expected that experienced grapplers will utilize the rules to their advantage in order to get the W. At the end of the day, those who won are known as world champions, not “bitches”. BTW, it takes two to tango. It’s not like Vinny “Schaub shut down” Gordon. He put the pressure down and frustrated Gordon’s game. Why didn’t Gordon exploit Vinny’s game plan to submit him? Also, I am not sure if Gordon would beat Vinny in a sub-only match. Gordon recently ballooned and it seems that he has a hard time adjusting to the fact that his muscles require a whole lot of oxygen. In a sub-only event (especially the one with no time limits) he could get stalled on and eventually succumb to fatigue before being submitted. I think that in a sub-only event, Vinny would have tougher time with Garry Tonon.

@MishaBJJ
@MishaBJJ 6 жыл бұрын
Roddy Yang Garry’s win was most impressive. However, he did not destroy Vinny. He beat Vinny in OT, by maintaining control position over longer period of time. I was speaking of sub-only with no time limits. I believe that in that format Garry could actually outlast Vinny and get the sub. Besides being technical, Garry is a cardio machine.
@BestWayKilla

He was slow and fat looking. it def affected his game but who knows maybe he didn't care much. I heard where he felt he was retiring in a few years already. Maybe his mind os off. he looked terrible good enough to destroy 90% of the world but not VINNY.

5:00 I feel if Gordon would have secured the heel and really hipped into that knee this match would have been finished in DDS leglock fashion; just didn't seem he put too much effort into that attempt and the leg was there for the taking!;'(

Vinny surely won the match but he was stalling and did a great job of defending those leg lock entries and creating pressure, Gordon was the more aggresive out of the two.

Dude come on go back and watch. Gordon is on bottom giving a beast like vinny the top game the whole time. He tried a million times to enter attacks but vinny simply backs out or stalls by dropping his weight and back ing out. They are both highly skilled and a guy with that talent decides to back out he will. He did not force the action. He did not engage. He was in full side control with Gordon not even trying to get out and went for nothing.

16:16 Gordon confused how he lost given that Vinny did nothing for the last two rounds, Vinny confused how he won after having stalled for 13 consecutive minutes. Points rulesets blow my mind sometimes, wtf is this bullshit where you score points then do nothing for the remaining 95% of the match? What happened to finishing people when you get a dominant position? Perfect example of control that leads to nothing lol

You could make the same argument against Gordon’s style: what good is a guard player if you can’t get up and take your opponent to the mat when you’re down on points ?
@kianbazarjani194
@kianbazarjani194 3 жыл бұрын
@@S0CD0C In my opinion, the onus is on the top player to actually attempt to pass the guard, but to each their own. Gordon does play a more reactive game and you see that here - nothing wrong with that but becomes hard to do if your opponent is hesistant to engage. Nowadays he's definitely more adept at dealing with someone who's reluctant to pass because of his more proactive guard playing style. Gordon made some genuine attempts at sweeping Vinny, trying to elevate him and made strong submission attempts when possible. Vinny did a good job in the opening round at hip switching past Ryan's hooks and landing in side control, but he didn't make any attempts at submissions or advancing position once he got there. He basically hugged Gordon until he escaped. The remaining two rounds were Ryan pushing the pace and trying to make grips to elevate Vinny, while Vinny only worked a negative game and didn't really do much other than the pass. I haven't watched the full match in a long time though (my original comment was from 5 months ago) so I might be missing something from my analysis.
