We had to send our Rocky to the eternal hunting fields two days ago. He was 16 years old (and three months). It seems to me that he achieved a long life - and allthough he was not a running and hunting dog any longer - he enjoyed a good walk up to his last day.

We lost our beautiful Gordon boy today. We had to take him to the vet for the last time. He was 9 years and 9 months old. He had a condition which caused his muscles in his hind legs to atrophy. He also had a spinal condition/injury that fed into that mix. He was bright and playful to the last. The front end was full of fun but the tail end let him down. When your dog cannot toilet without assistance and when every time he lies down and groans a decision is needed. We made the decision. We miss him terribly. We lost his Uncle to a similar issue where he was unable to move his "back end". From yomping around in the field scaring up pheasants to limping and then an inability to walk more than 400 yards was very quick, a mere 4 weeks. It is absolutely devastating to lose a dog before his time. We will look towards a rescue but It has to be a setter.

I just lost my gordon setter.😢 had cancer in the nose. Was only 5 years old. he was a very sweet and very energetic dog. Stubborn but at the same time very intelligent and obedient. he was a good dog, very cheerful fellow.

I adopted a gordon mix at 10 weeks from the local animal shelter. He is beautiful with brindle legs and snout instead of brown. He is the smartest dog I have ever had. He opens doors so I have to keep all doors locked to keep him in, including the pantry. He loves to swim which is great because I live on a lake. He also loves kayaking but I struggle with keeping him in a sitting postion on my kayak. My friends fight over who he will live with in case of my death. Hopefully we will both live a long life together but I know he will be loved if something happens to me. He loves deeply and when my old Great Pyranees mix passed he went into a depression for about 3 months. He is coming out of it now finally. I was beginning to worry.

I think this overview has failed to made the distinction between properly breed Gordan’s (short haired) and the group that were absolutely destroyed by the factious women of the AKC. A proper gorden is smarter than a German shorthair. German shorthairs have better noses, but Gordon’s a smarter
