This scene is both terrifying and sad at the same time. Clearly Gordy had a friendship with the family, only to be spooked from the first balloon popping and probably thought it was something else, like a gunshot perhaps. Which caused him to freak out. When the last balloon popped, it caused him to snap out of it and not remember what he did. Only for him to get shot dead while trying to communicate to the boy who he saw as his friend. It goes to show you why it's stupid to have dangerous animals around without the proper care. The way Gordy dies also ties into one of the central themes of peele’s movies in that humanity isn’t the hottest meal on the plate. Both Gordy and jj are examples of how dangerous nature is and how people thinking they have a better understanding than they really do means they can control and exploit it. In spite of how terrifying these creatures are they still went down like any other wild animal would when getting their brains blown out.An ongoing theme of these movies is of people who try to control what they not only don’t understand but also believe they have superiority over only to get the worst humbling of their life. The final nail in the coffin is they can’t even say they lost to something larger than life and say it took something nearly unstoppable to beat them as they lost to something just as vulnerable as them.
