I've listened to dozens of talks with Gore Vidal and this was one the most interesting to listen to as an American citizen. Thanks!

Sadly, tragically, there is no one left who could replace Gore Vidal. I place him on the same level as Mark Twain, which is the highest accolade I can give him.

i have always enjoyed vidal's works. during my college years, he was a great inspiration. i still recall his comments on w.f. Buckley's death. Vidal was a great critic , a great thinker, and courageous. a great mind...

What Gore most eloquently points out is that we never really know our leaders, we only see the facade they sell to the masses. Sadly missed.

Thanks Gore for all your knowledge and clarifications of historical episodes !! Geesh he should have produced a son and daughter !!!! Glad he and Jerry taped this on WE The PEOPLE !!! Jerry, you have been the best. Gov. Calif. Ever had . All that surplus money, surely low income housing should be happening for the homeless in L A & San Francisco !!

Great interview, but Vidal rarely gave bad media. Great storyteller. Brown's Pacifica Radio WE THE PEOPLE show came long after his term as California governor, but shortly before his term a Oakland mayor, when he lived in a sparse converted warehouse in downtown Oakland. I think it had been a Sears & Roebuck building. Brown was a character, and his radio show was hit or miss. He could be quite full of himself. He'd often go well into the hour program talking incessantly before his famous guest was allowed to speak ... I remember this happened with Cde. Angela Davis. Brown talked for so long I wanted to call the radio station to ask him to please shut up. Of the many pearls to think about from this interview is when Brown quotes from Ted Kaczinsky, aka the UnaBomber, how people were being turned into domesticated animals. A few beats later, Vidal, mid-sentence, has digested this concept and affirms it: "I rather like that phrase ... we are being Animal Farmed ... "

As for dating this program, Brown and Vidal mention the trial of Giulio Andreotti (Italian Prime Minister) which I believe began in 1993.

Dunno. While the thrust of Gore's argument, the elites calling the shots, seemed prophetic, he hurled a lot of hearsay about history and didn't back it up.

Dictionaries should be mandatory for people leaving comments. Vidal was exceptionally smart, witty, smug and sanctimonious. And he had no real answers to real problems regardless of what his adoring sycophants say.
