"You're not worth being on the same platform as my wife," Bill Clinton told Jerry Brown in a 1992 Democratic primary debate in Chicago after Brown accused Clinton of funneling Arkansas state money to Hillary Clinton's law firm.

"Jerry comes here with his family wealth and 1500 dollar suit" so random but great😂

It’s actually pretty genius, throwing that in there just to emphasize the fact that Jerry comes from money and he doesn’t. He’s subtly reminding everyone that he grew up poor in Arkansas and isn’t just another out of touch rich person that doesn’t understand the struggles of regular people.

Had Jerry Brown been nominated, George H.W. Bush would've won re-election easily.

Doubt it. Ross Perot still would have taken a big chunk of George H.W. Bush's votes.
@joshcohen23138 жыл бұрын
John Q. Public it wouldn't have made much of a difference. Perot took votes equally from both parties
@justthecoolestdudeyo94466 жыл бұрын
Maybe, maybe not. From what I remember, the economy wasn't doing too hot, and that generally helped out the challengers to Bush
@eddieblackford49196 жыл бұрын
If Perot didn't run, H.W. would've had a second term. This idea that Perot took equal votes from Bush and Clinton is total bs. Perot split the conservative vote
@freakyfornash6 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but I don't quite see it that way. If you recall, Perot actually LEAD the race all the way during the summer of 92, until he dropped out, with Clinton being in a distant third. When that happened, Clinton then gained a huge lead soon after, which he never relinquished, but the race then slightly tightened when Perot re-entered. You may also recall that Bush actually insisted Perot be included in the debates, which was something that lead to Clinton famously labeling him "Chicken George". But one thing I'll always wonder is if Perot actually could have won the whole thing, had if he not killed his own momentum by dropping out (while waiting too long to get back in), and if he had also had time to nominate a competent vice-presidential candidate, which his running mate James Stockdale was anything but!? But Clinton I'm pretty sure would've won a one on one race, with too many factors going against Bush at the time, along with the country finally getting a case of party fatigue, and with the way things were also heading for the nation in general then (mainly the economy going bad) as well.

Notice how the moderator sees when its important that candidates spar. That should be allowed. But the moderator should also step in when one man is given a certain amount of time to answer a question. I fear that future moderators will try to step in every time there is an exchange. We need moderators like this one who are discerning and also have a commanding presence.

Imo, it didn’t even matter whether or not the accusations Brown made against Clinton were true or false, ultimately it mattered in presentation & delivery. Brown’s anger is seen as unnecessary, he’s slurring some words, & looks obsessive while Clinton is calm, collected, & careful with his words. In a situation that calls for leadership, who are you going to choose?
