I think the term originally derives from backseat driver. E.g if you are one yourself you know the feeling of you driving and somebody on the backseat non-stop telling you where and how to drive.

@@steven69943 It derived from someone sitting in the "backseat" of a vehicle and telling the driver where to go, how to drive, how to get somewhere, etc. without the driver asking for assistance. In summary, it's unwanted advice.
