Children are so precious at that age! I raised my nephew for the first five years of his life, and I am still extremely involved, and he absolutely loved/loves painting. I could not have any cobalts/cadmiums/toxic colors on my palette because from the time he was almost 3, sometimes my nephew would wake up very early (5am-ish) and not make a peep, get up and come into my room and sit at my table and paint. I have a bad habit of leaving my current paintings, palette, brushes, and water layed out on my table...so I have a lot of paintings that he finished for me 😂 But the memories are so precious. I would wake up to hearing him giggling, and after the first time it happened, I would just lay there in bed and watch him paint and just let him do his creative thing.

Another fun color for mixing greens is Payne's Gray. Depending on the yellow you mix it with, you can get anything from a spring mossy green to something close to a Perylene green. SO gorgeous.

Yes, for me especially Winser & Newton Paynes Gray or Schmincke Paynes Gray Bluish. Just a little PG7 Phthalo green turns it into a very dark perfect Perylene green color.

Thanks for the video. What wonderful mixes. I have mixed burnt Siena and ultramarine together at first by accident. In my beginning watercolor class a few years ago. the assignment was to make a two color painting. Most people actually used two different colors not mixed. However I chose burnt sienna and ultramarine and got all those shades. My classmates were amazed about how many colors I had in my painting by using just those two colors.

This is good to show how much you can expand you colors if you don't have a lot of colors to start with. And that really helps when you can't afford to buy a lot of stuff. And can be used for not just paints to blend colors.

This was interesting and fun, Emma! I’ve used French Ultramarine Blue and burnt sienna a lot to get from a soft dove grey to dark black! ( the black is achieved when you mix the two colours 50/50 right out of the tube ie really thick! Adding water gets you a variety of greys!) colour mixing is so fun! So much to discover with these beautiful watercolours! ❤️

Hey Emma I’m new to your channel. Must say your son is sooooo adorable! I absolutely loved that he knew how to say “painting”. He seems to be quite advanced in language as he looks like he’s maybe one years old and my granddaughter didn’t start talking until after two. It is fun to teach them art though and colors. You obviously love color. I am very color oriented, and I wonder if you would consider putting pigment info. in at least your swatching videos. Beginners need to understand the importance of knowing pigments and those of us who have experience should be relying on that information to know our paints & their characteristics better. Also, then you know if your color is a repeat of another color that you already have & they have just given it a cute little name to attract sales. I also love Dot Cards. as then you know the whole line or can look it up and maybe pick colors that you want to buy in the future. Plus it is a good way to warm up , or if you’re sick or just not up to painting, or don’t have much time, it’s a good way to get a little painting in and look at the colors. Just my thoughts on the importance of pigment numbers as a way of identification. Thanks so much for your videos. I will try to jump in there and get to know your series. SARA

I love stepping outside of the box to mix and see what happens! Some of the colors are just outright ugly, but you don't know until you try, and even the ugly colors can be saved by adding a bit of this or that to tone it. (in most cases, at least a rudimentary understanding of color theory helps to correct the ugly). One of the things I love most is to play like this and to see what happen. I don't know why I haven't started a color mixing journal yet. I think I will. I think the mid tone between the rose and moss green is closer to brick red, closing in on terra cotta and it's beautiful. When you said you were going to mix these two, I didn't believe it would be anything other than that last warm brown, which you could also use as a brick color. It's all about the "base"! Base yellow vs base red vs base blue in any color will actually tell you what will work and what won't. For instance, yes red and green make brown in general terms, but look at the base when you pull it out. Of course, the rose is base red, but the moss green is actually base yellow, which will work to make some different and darker warm colors of orange, which is the terra cotta in the middle, and even the salmon in the first mix. The last mix is base yellow, which is what you'd expect in mixing the yellow with red and a bit of green to make brown. Color mixing is so much FUN! I mean, it's all a trick of the eye, isn't it? Especially pink. Pink is an imaginary color, and technically should be called "minus green", but super hard to mix to a specific pink because the color doesn't actually exist by mixing 2 or even 3 colors. And when mixing, you have to stay away from ALL green. Red and white only makes light red, not pink.

The first swatch green looks JUST LIKE Iron Green in the Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils. It is the most gorgeous hue of green, honestly. I just love it. The two mixed together looks JUST LIKE Madder Brown in the same set...which is the absolute most gorgeous color in the whole set, bar none. Just love what you did there!

One of my favorite unlikely mixes is a Quinacidone Magenta, the PR122 pigment,not the PV19. Im specifying the pigment number because both depending on brand can have the same name. Mix with Phthalocyanine Green, PG7. It's surprising and beautiful 🤩. In Winser & Newton it would be Quinacridone Magenta and Winser Green Blue Shade.

obv mixing a neutralized yellow green like greengold ( moss green,) a green yellow neutralized with a bit of red ti make it gold with quin rose makes a range brown .because combining any 3 primaries make browns.. adding some yellow to quin rose makes an even brighter coral. mixing colors opposite each other on the color, mixing a primary color and a secondary color of each other on the color wheel make a neutral .if its cooler .more blue ..its grey to black..if its warmer it s brown to deep brown. a combo of all primaries makes a neutral . get your color theory stringer and get your vocabulary correct!

also most artist when we started out in the 80s only used green gold WN not dao green to mix green with a range of yellows and blues. you use a moss green which is comparable. I dint like oerylene green ..it has black in it and muddies things..i have it from 3 different sources at least. you are supposed to nake charts of each of your colors striped vertically and horizontally at similar values to make charts of what colors are in range of your pallette. usung tii many different colors in any ine oainting also makes mud or at least makes it less harmknious according to the rules of composition. I thought you had a stringer bsckground than you do. of course as a young mother of an incredibly cute baby, your time is limited and so mught be your finances but you dont need a huge paleete of such a wide range of colors. i have because i am primarily a colorist but you tech color theory and water color much to much too haphazardly and you use the wrong terms.
@rayneehurd8745
@rayneehurd8745 3 ай бұрын
if you knew color theory you could have predicted all of these. you calling neutrals like dark grey black is annoying too. people make darks or blacks with alizarine crimson and thalo green for years. or rose madder genuine and viridian for a grey Perylene hreen has black in it to start..it is a blackened blue green. also the classic combo of Burnt sienna and French ukt blue has been used to make beautiful neutrals...greys and browns and almost black for years. You also dont use top of the line paints...seriously disappointed in your knowledge base
