I just love the flowing river of rock idea. We have 80 acres and I need to tighten up my landscape. Since I have no fences I need to create smaller vignettes that all work together. I just love the white rock feature, my lawn slopes downhill anyway so this will be perfect. Great inspiration! Thks!

Your fence landscaping is absolutely gorgeous. You truly inspire me as I am a DIYER in my yard as well. I love the cardboard as weedstopper. I collect cardboards during the winter to have an ample supply. It biodegradable and goes back into the soil. Last year, my daughter ordered me some drip hoses that connects directly to the water faucet. I laid the hoses throughout my flowerbed, and when my plants needed watering, I just walked over and turned the water on. The hoses comes with an attachment that you can select the size of drips. The hose is flexible. I’m thinking she got them off Amazon. Your yard is absolutely beautiful. I do understand the heat, trips back and forth for mulch, etc😂😂😂. The enjoyment is you can stand back and admire your handy work😊

That turned out really well! Your house is now an attention getter. When I was younger, my family and I would drive up and down the streets and look at how ppl were creative in making their home look attractive and welcoming by doing small touches around their homes. Most of the houses didn’t have flowers bc of the up keep. They just cut the grass and trimmed the shrubs. But there were a few that put the work in and made their home so pleasant to see that you couldn’t help to ooh and aah over them. Thanx for taking us along your journey.😊

Your yard is looking great. Lots of hard work but it’s a labor of love. Try going to Sam’s. They hard cardboard that they use as dividers for their merchandise. It’s really big sheets and it works great. Plus it’s free. Good luck.

Hello, I imagine how the roses and shrubs in front of the fence look beautiful in a few years, when their height reaches about that of the fence. Like always, gardening shouldn't be for an instant effect, but for years, possibly decades into the future. So let's imagine how this looks 5 years into the future: beautiful roses and shrubs, perhaps also still the flowers. I would also recommend oily treatments for the fence, instead of acrylic paint, when further painting is needed. Bare gravel areas are high maintenance in the long run, like those spilling pots designs. So there's (once again) my biggest gripe: Weed fabric is bad, bad, bad! And why lay it over cardboard, which is a perfect, temporary weed suppression? There should be ground cover developing in those mulch areas, over the same period when the cardboard decays. Like this, nothing will grow in the soil, but weeds will grow on top, as the mulch decays and accumulates dust. Avoid mixing the soil with trash, such as weed fabric rags or rubber mulch. If somebody really, for whatever reason, wants weed fabric, it should be completely removed when no longer useful. That's quite a hard job! So, there's a nice start with the plantings, yet things to improve.

Carolina is a gardening fiend! That was a very ambitious project. The design is very nice and choice of plants give real punch to the landscape. Seeing the different mulching products is like having shading in a painting. I just put in a no dig area in my garden and I’m curious to see how it works out. It will be wonderful to see how Carolina’s garden progresses.

Very pretty! Word to the wise the blue liriope (lily turf) is VERY invasive. I finally removed it from my garden bed., it was everywhere and the roots are crazy. Its very pretty when it blooms and stays green in the winter, but extremely invasive.

One general opinion on gardening and landscaping videos: Both YT and TV likely have the problem to focus only on an instant effect in "before-after" images. But gardening is for years and decades to come. The good thing I like with DIY Carolina, is the amateurish approach with affordable purchases from ordinary stores, what probably most hobby gardeners do. TV garden makeovers tend to require huge sums and are, in the end, a bad model for hobby gardeners, often more building than gardening. But many YT videos also focus on unnecessary, useless or outright bad products. So I put this list of the worst DON'Ts here: - Mixing synthetic trash into the soil, such as rubber mulch, weed fabric rags, decorative colored or "glow-in-dark" plastic "gravel". Note: Downcycling is perfectly OK in a garden, by using demolition rubble, excess materials, items beyond their regular lifespan. They should just not release harmful chemicals or microplastics, and be removable. - Artificial turf, artificial plants in general. - Zeroscaping (not meaning xeriscaping, dry landscaping): extensive gravel areas on weed fabric with no or very few decorative plants, building over the garden with pavement, tarmac, concrete (or artificial turf). On the other hand, it often pays to search for specialized shops and nurseries for native, regionally adapted plants, a real worthy effort to search beyond the usual DIY and garden centers, who often just sell plants with flashy colors, which don't last for long.

I would mix some cow manure and lawn soil together and spread it across the lawn after using one of those bow rakes. And sprinkle grass seeds everywhere. Water every day. This is what I did. I’m so jealous that you’re able to work at night in your garden. I’m going to invest in lights 😊

Awesome and you have to be so proud of yourself. I know that I am, and feeling so inspired by you. I’m a semi newbie gardener. I say that because I’m venturing out more and more on information as I learn to plant in my space. I’ve started with my knot out roses a few years back and now it’s a full bush. Now I’m planting seeds of other perennials, I planted my first cannas, etc. etc. However, it’s nothing quite like all you do. You work so hard. It can be a little intimidating when going to a H-Depot or Lowe’s, but I love it so I’m taking the leap on more and more educational projects around my home😊😊❤. It’s therapeutic for me like your videos.
