Love the rake - so handy! Someone once mentioned that the fastest way to tidy up the garden is to rake the gravel paths (if u have them). And I couldn’t agree more - I love doing that.

I use a leaf blower on low setting on my gravel. It cleans it very well. Then if I need to I can rake any misplaced gravel with a rake.

I wonder about using agriculture salt. Works on weeds

Gotta lot of scrappy gravel here in the soggy Pacific Northwest.

I will invest in a rake but never use chemicals- we should all be moving on from those now for obvious reasons

Yes! With all the knowledge we now have about how it is destroying our vulnerable nature. There is really no need for it. Incredible that gardeners and designers still use it. If you love nature and wildlife and work with it day in and day out I can`t phantom they could even consider using it. It really saddens me and I loose respect immediately.

Bunny you are the doyenne of detail and so generous with your pragmatism and knowledge, thankyou. I know it would no doubt cause more controversy than you would wish to take on but would you consider/have you shared your thoughts on weeding methods. We all understand the problems with chemicals, dont like using them and i imagine feel guilty when it is used...would you be up for aharing your thoughts?! Weed membrane Flame guns Home made solutions Hand weeding No dig Gravel gardens Clearing a new site There are so many different scenarios I know! Any thoughts would be great! X

Have you tried flame to get rid of the moss? I’m thinking of trying one of those propane fueled burner things on small weeds and moss in my gravel paths.

yes but i found it very slow and not very effective, also does not kill perennial weeds. 🐰

I’m a gravel path fan. We spray our Lilydale toppings path with chemical every year. It gets full of weeds and moss and we found that this is the only way to keep it looking nice.

75% vinegar works for my gravel paths. However, I never over spray in the beds. Plus, raking, does the trick.

I’m laying down my first gravel pathways this spring and I’m finding so much conflicting information on how to do it right to make it last. A main one in whether or not to put down a weed suppressing fabric - do yours have it, Bunny? I’m planning to do 3 inches road base on bottom, 2-3 inches compacted decomposed granite, and then 2 inches of pea gravel on top.

I inherited the fabric it is awful and will start peeping through- I’m in the process of pulling it up. I also only weed never use chemicals

I did a video ‘loose gravel -how to choose and use’ this will help. I hate weed suppressing fabric as do many gardeners - I think non gardeners like it though as there is less weeding but what you weed out and what you leave in is part of the pleasure of developing it. If the space is on heavy clay then you can put terram under the hardcore /granite to stop the clay coming up into the base layer. The gravel particles are best if they are angular so they knit together and best if they are for instance ‘10mm down’ the ‘down’ means the particles are 12mm and smaller, so they lock together. Get samples first and see how they look wet and dry. Finally I would only lay a layer that is just enough to hide the hardcore, so maybe if 12mm down gravel lay just 24 mm thick. It is expensive and impossible to walk on comfortably when laid too deep. Hope this helps! 🐇

What about spraying with solution of vinegar and water.
@bunnyguinness17 күн бұрын
This only works on annual weeds and has to be at a high strength of vinegar. Does need to be really sloshed on to have any effect. 🐰
@rebeccagammel65617 күн бұрын
I use 35% industrial vinegarl mixed with orange oil. It is not systemic, but it certainly destroys anything that is sprayed with it. It dissipates quickly.

Bunny - Please adjust the audio levels before you render the upload file. The levels should be as close to -2db as possible without going higher. Yours are at -15db which means the video is a LOT quieter than normal. You can see the actual average db value by right-clicking any YT video and selecting "Stats for Nerds".
