I got my 6th Shijie in the mail today (6 days shipping from China to East Coast!), a custom shop STE-Master strat. Obviously I think they are amazing guitars. Regarding the TM-5, worth noting that that isn't a quilted maple veneer, it's an actual thick maple cap, like all similar Shijies. They use really high quality woods.

@j79-p9u2 жыл бұрын
@@bostonbesteats364 Well...a 1mm top IS a veneer, isnt it? ;)
@bostonbesteats3642 жыл бұрын
@@j79-p9u There isn't really a formal definition of a veneer vs a cap as far as I know, but many guitar veneers are thinner than 1mM (and there are also "photo transfers" too). The 1mM Shijie veneer/cap guitar I was referring to that I have is as 2 piece mahogany body + 6mm 3A Flat sawn flame maple cap + 1mm 5A Burl maple top (all three are visible due to the carve), so we talking a different league there, it's more of a custom shop guitar. Shijie caps are about 1 cm thick in my experience.
@j79-p9u2 жыл бұрын
@@bostonbesteats364 "Veneer" is not a dirty word in my world...plenty of awesome guitars have them. All i am saying is that if we start calling a 1mm slice of wood a top, then the word "veneer" becomes kinda meaningless and we should just call everything a top :)

I just recently got a M Musi virgo fusion guitar and it's unbelievable for the price. They have roasted maple necks and fretboards but some have rosewood fretboard. They have stainless steel frets with excellent fretwork and rounded polished ends, locking tuners, tremolo, coil split and some beautiful finishes. They have a Strat style, telecaster, and super telecaster with humbuckers. Darrell you should check these out because they're only a third of what the Shijie cost, about $279 to $339.
@MrPhotonjockey2 жыл бұрын
I also got a Virgo Fusion. I am somewhat underwhelmed considering all the hype. The locking tuners were too tight. The Rosewood fretboard was super dry and the frets were gritty feeling. I cannot get the action down to were I want to, so it is either going back or I will need to have it shimmed. Maybe I should ship it to Mr. Braun for review?
@robertvarner81952 жыл бұрын
@@MrPhotonjockey Every guitar is a little different and the only problem I had with mine was fret buzz and with a trust rod adjustment I was able to fix that but they go through alot of temperature and humidity change when they're shipping long distances. @windsurfmaui82392 жыл бұрын
The guitar is almost perfect. They should roll the neck edges, since it is a roasted neck don't put a finish on the neck, use stainless steel jumbo (6100) frets (even if they have to raise the price $50) and make a thick neck version for those that like a thicker neck. Thanks for the video.

Black Pearl guitars are labeled Black Pearl. This one is 'a straight up Shijie'. I asked Shijie about it. The TM380 is a Black Oearl but the build quality is the same high standards that Shijie has.

I've got an LPM too, they only made about a dozen! My understanding is that Black Pearl was going to be their entry-level brand (although the one I have is super high-end), but they changed their marketing plan and its all "Shijie" now.

@@bostonbesteats364 That was the intention but it ended up costing them money as they were using the same process and materials but charging $200-$300 less. It was meant to attract more customers but was a costly move so they dropped it and nos it's all Shijie.

Looks terrific in many ways. That color pattern is not for me; but it's impressive nonetheless. Two other little nitpicks from me: I hate the empty space around the pickups. Isn't there some kind of pickup ring that could be devised to close up all that empty space. I find it very unsightly. Glaringly so. It gives the guitar a very unfinished/incomplete look. Is it also a place for dust/dirt to accumulate? Second I hate the placement of the of the top knob (volume, I assume). It is too close to your right-hand position. I'd like it an inch or so further down/away. Aesthetically is it out of balance (to my eye); and, I suspect I would be constantly hitting it inadvertently with my right hand.
