Outstanding job, Well thought out and your attention to detail and insuring clean installation of ALL parts was top shelf. You SHOULD be proud of that beautiful instrument. As long as you are thinking about “Running her WFO” match her up with a full tilt Paul Reed Smith CE24. Should be an all out groove and I like you chances. As far as best in show ? You may have a win there too. I will be watching to see ... stay loose son. Later

+Isaac Ord Seconded! They add to the motif set by the pickup covers. Likely such a niche market that it would be unrealistic to expect anyone to offer them, but it would be cool if it was possible to continue the theme with matching tips on the tip of the trem arm and pickup selector. A real beauty as she is now!

@Pete We built a David Gilmore Custom instead. Fender NZ helped us out which saved us a fortune. Used Dark Moon Black and Tan pick up's and it's absolutely stunning! I grabbed 4 sets of strings before lock down and he only has one pack left. He loves it and his other Fender has been parked up ever since. I think it was worth every cent and we are pleased we didn't go down the humbucker path.

How much did it actually cost. I’m not a guitar player,actually can’t play anything I’ve always been fascinated by guitars an people who can play guitar. But I’d love to know how much it would cost to build something like that as tinkering an building electronics is a big passion of mine an I love woodworking and finishing. So to combine something like to get a end product like that would be lots fun plus it would give me the excuse to at the very least make a piss poor attempt at learning how to play guitar 🎸 I just can’t see dropping to much money if I could build a quality guitar for reasonable price so that if I just can’t get it I could least recoup my cost by selling it I’d be very interested. Guess that is a lot info when I could of left it at what the cost was total an maybe a break down on what each component costed would be cool to know.

Tip on drilling for pickguard: After drilling screw holes of apprpriate diamater, use a large countersink bit, just turning it with your fingers to relieve the corners at the top of the hole. I believe this method is easier to control than using a larger bit as suggested (but not shown) in the video. As Darrell mentioned around 19:22 this relief keeps stress off the finish when the screws are installed, but it also keeps the finish from bulging at that point which can prevent the pickguard from sitting flush. These issues are more important when thicker finishes have been applied.

Nice job mate. For me, I'd keep the abalone knobs. Everything black is too boring & too gloomy, you need a bit of colour. If the pickups were the only colourful thing then the guitar starts to look odd, so the abalone knobs tie everything together nicely 👍
@bitronicc1887
@bitronicc1887 5 жыл бұрын
The bit of color comes from the pickups and the dot inlays though, you add too much and you're beyond the point of tasteful accenting and taking away from the effect of contrast. If you overwhelm the appearance with abalone, it starts to look like a holofoil toy from the 1990s. Less is more in this fashion.

That might be the best looking SuperStrat I've ever seen, and it sounds nice and fat like a SuperStrat should!! The knobs look great with the abalone tops, but I can't help but wonder how it would look with a black 3 layer pick-guard that has a middle layer that matches the abalone shell. I bet a thin line of color outlining the pick-guards shape would really pop on such a beautiful dark background!

I really, really like that partscaster build, black on black is very cool. Nice find on the body btw. A couple of years back I built a black on black partscaster with a telecaster body made by shecter, routed for a Floyd rose trem. I always wanted a tele with a Floyd, (don't judge me) I found a pawn shop aria pro strat with a really nice neck that I got for $60.00. (The body was $250.00) I think, I found a lisenced by Floyd on line for about $20.00 or $30.00 made in who knows where. I put a S D trembucker J B in the bridge position got a blank single ply pick guard (black) modded it with my own curve as opposed to the standard tele straight cut on the lower bout of the pick guard. I put a push pull volume with a boost on the pull, a tone switch rather than a tone pot, spst full on to output or slightly less treble, and a kill switch button. This has become my # one, I really want to build another one so I have a back up. But I want to build a LP junior double cut with a single pick up and possibly a Floyd as well. I also built a parts strat last year, with two pick guards that I can switch between hss or sss configurations, standard trem with locking tuners. Sorry I guess I'm babbling on and on. Really like your builds, tips and stuff. Take care...🎸😈🎸

$300 for pickups ($150 each) No idea about the abalone knobs and custom shop work for the pre-assembled pick guard. $645 for the body Neck is $550-$700 IF you can find one. $80-$90 for the tuners $165 for the bridge set up So low end I would guess $1650 easy. Just put a set of the HipShot encased locking tuners on my made in China Squire Super Strat and what a fantastic Upgrade !! After buying a Ibanez and a Kramer Baretta re-Issue I decided to go back to my favorite body shape in the Standard Strat body with two Hot humbucker's in the bridge and neck positions . I'm a 80's Thrash Metal and Glam fan/player and got the guitar for $350 brand new and decided just to Mod it slowly into the Metal beast I have been wanting ! So far so good . A lot of people think Metal and Strats dont go together , and they are dead wrong just needs some TLC and a few upgrades its just as MEAN sounding as any BC Rich , ESP or Jackson Metal Guitar for a fraction of the price even with the mods just start with the most Important mods 1st and its easy after that . Thanks Darrel great Video interesting build !!

That is absolutely stunning. I did a Warmoth Strat build about 7 years ago. I did not trust my own skills at the time, so I paid a guy to assemble it all. Definitely not cheap in the long run. I learned a lot from your video. It makes me want to build another one! Awesome work!

That guitar is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Abalone knobs work very well . Just wish the pick guard didn't cover so much of the amazing body. Nice build!!

Black knobs. 100%. It’s too much with those three additional trim elements, and breaks the black hole Darth Vader look. The in line neck aesthetic works better from a design perspective. One of the most beautiful guitars I’ve seen in a while. Great build.

Looks cool man. I replaced two pickups on my first serous guitar as well as giving it a serious setup. Truss rod and lots of non floyd rose floating trem fiddling. It wasn't great but it was better than before. On later guitars I handed it over to guitar techs for setups and new pickup installs. It's worth having a go. Often you can get it right and save a fortune if you educate your self enough. The Guitar handbook emboldened me to have a go at fitting a new pickup and it worked - twice. I even routed out the space on a cheap strat clone the space to fit a humbucker in the bridge. After buying a £600 Ibanez5 70 and wanting a replacement bridge pickup with coiltap and coil switching I decided a pro would be better. He did it and put it in a coil tap microswitch that has lasted 30 years. Trust the pros for the hard jobs - Have a go for the simpler jobs. Luv and Peace.

Absolutely love it! Only thing I spotted, you mentioned... need a blackout output jack nut. Definitely keep the abalone knobs. Would have liked to see the intonation setting for it. Do you need my address for when I ask you to build me one? Maybe a Warmouth Mooncaster? GOOD ON YA DB!

I'd say like the gold exposed gears and the silver logo on the head that the silver output jack gives it a more functional feel. Like it's not trying too hard. It's one of the parts that over time would get messed up and could look trashy so keeping it silver allows the black trem and tuners to own their statement.
