Aging female gorilla Nene's children (Ai and Kiyomasa) are gaining weight daily. On the other hand, Nene looks thinner than ever. However, her appetite does not seem to have waned and she is eating well.
Daughter Ai is watching her aging mother, perhaps worries about her.
It was a very touching scene, and although they did not say a word, I could imagine what they were thinking.
Nene is the oldest female gorilla in captivity in Japan. She is estimated to be 51 years old, which is about 80-85 in human years.
She belongs to the Shabani Troop at the Higashiyama Zoo in Nagoya, Japan.

I worry about nene. This lady is old and not gaining weight....suppose she will stop thriving one day and we will lose her. She holds a special place in my heart I suppose since Im elderly I can relate to her. I see her walk its an old walk any arthritis??? God bless this lady she is certainly a tuff one.❤❤❤🙏🙏

Yeah and in Nene's case you see she often chooses to sit next to Ai or Kiyo. But beyond that the occasional display of caring about other gorillas does get you wondering how gorillas experience attachment vs how human experience it.

They are gorillas. They don't need a mattress, they are fine. Out in the wild, they wouldn't have a soft cushion.

I couldn’t agree more. Especially for Nene she is getting on in years and appears to have hip issues/stiffness or arthritis as she is very deliberate & slow in her movements. She could most certainly benefit from having some sort of soft padding/ cushioned platform or bedding. I wonder if she is being given any sort of meds natural or otherwise for this. They certainly wouldn’t be sitting/ sleeping or walking on concrete in their natural habitat in the wild. You can see how much they like those sacks/ covers. These zoos are awful environments for these majestic animals who roam & cover so much ground in the wild. Here they are confined in small glass enclosures & have steel climbing bars. There is hardly anything natural about their habitat.So I feel that providing them with a few comforts & some stimulation is the very least these money grabbing enslaving institutions should do.

Not really true Nene when she was younger and was jenkees age was a great mother not at all vindictive and spiteful and controlling even close to as much as Genki is you don't understand none of you do and it's always women who write the stupid post about Jim keeping the best in the greatest mother and this and that you don't realize how much a motaro has suffered because he was put with her momotaro's father rejected Genki as a partner before momotaro was even born if she cuz she has a bad personality and she's very controlling and selfish if you pay attention and because she is with her children even though momotaro was the most gentle parents when they were all babies she would never let him even get close to him and he's all by himself in there in that tiny little place is almost never mean to her or aggressive it's just not right that everyone is so quick to be in my opinion sexiest in a positive way towards the female gorillas in assume she such a great mother because you wanted to assume

@@camouflagekumquat3412 I meant that they both have their bottom lip hanging, act like old ladies, and seem grouchy often. I like them the least of the gorillas I watch. I don’t like the way Genki throws things at Momotaro when he’s sleeping or just sitting there. Also, I don’t think it’s fair that she has him hostage because they can’t bring in a new female or move her because they are afraid of what she will do. I don’t want Genki to hurt herself but I wish there was a way. So, I wasn’t even saying any of what you were talking about. I really like how you said that I assumed but didn’t know what I was talking about. 🙃 You wrote an entire wall of foolishness talking about stupidity, misogyny, assumptions, and whatever else when it was you that didn’t know what I was talking about. I think they will have another daughter once they decide to take her off birth control but it seems like she doesn't even want to get her mom to be jealous I think that's why she avoids getting so close to him because she respects her mom too much I think if nene dies within a couple years at the most then they'll probably take her off birth control then and then I think she would naturally along with the fact that she's off birth control oh be factors in her having a baby but if that doesn't happen anytime soon they might just take her off birth control and see what happens with nene there

I mean in the wild it's totally natural for multiple female gorillas to be mating with the 1 male who aren't related. While a hierarchy still forms, they all still will have kids with the male. I have also never seen evidence for Nene trying to stop Ai and Shabani from mating or anything. It's not like Nene is always around Shabani trying to get his attention. It's the exact opposite, she stays as far away from him as she can while also staying close enough to remain in the troop. It's a very confusing situation and I'd like the keepers to actually tell us what all the weird quirks and issues these gorillas have. Like is Ai on birth control? Does she avoid having kids due to PTSD or is it really Nene? etc.

I have also never seen evidence for Nene trying to stop Ai and Shabani from mating or anything. i have only seen her get upset if Ai goes ahead of Kiyomasa or Shabani when moving to a new area as Gorillas instinctually move between areas in order of most dominant to less dominant, and Nene seems to want Kiyo to be dominant which is interesting. It's not like Nene is always around Shabani trying to get his attention. It's the exact opposite, she stays as far away from him as she can while also staying close enough to remain in the troop. Aí is a daughter of Nene and Ricky a silverback that has died. So therefore Shabani is any or form a father of Aí “ not related by blood !

Вы переводчиком можете воспользоваться Ай - дочь Нене и Рики (он умер). Шабани не отец Ай. У него сын Киемаса (мама Нене) и дочь Энни (мама Ай).
