[Gorilla, Gentaro] Gentaro is worried about Momotaro's strange behavior. 2021.8.16

Momotaro has no appetite this day either.
He looks more painful than the day before (August 15).
Needless to say, I think the keepers are coping.
Details, I do not know.
We went indoors again this day in a light rain that normally would not open the indoor area.
I think I was able to see Gentaro's gentle appearance once again.
He seemed very worried about Momotaro from the beginning to the end. Thank you Gentaro!

The zoo's official Instagram reported on Momotaro's situation.
He had been on antibiotics to treat a wound on his jaw, but they had recently been changed and he seemed to be experiencing side effects.
He is now off the antibiotics and has started medication to stop the diarrhea.
He has been eating and drinking bananas, oranges, nutritional supplements, and oral rehydration solution since the morning of August 17.
It may take him a while to recover, but we are happy to know that he has started eating.

The Momotaro family were all born and raised in Japan!
Momotaro (father) was born on October 18, 2000
He came to the Kyoto City Zoo in 2010.
Genki (mother) was born on June 24, 1986.
I was born in Kyoto and came back to Kyoto.
Gentaro (eldest son), born on December 21, 2011
Momotaro and Genki's first child
Kintaro (second son) born December 19, 2018
The baby gorilla who is an idol.

I noticed momotaros stomach is clearly much smaller and he's obviously not eating hardly. I wonder if not eating for a day or two can do that much change? Gorillas are known for the big belly's which is caused by the gases from all the plants that they eat so I wonder if not eating for a day or 2 can cause it to shrink that much or it's something else...? 🦍🤔🤔 momotaro clearly does not feel well cause he slept the whole time, hardly moved, wouldn't eat, family was showing concern, even genki was close by which is def a big thing, and we all know how momotaro usually has to be the first in the door when it opens but he clearly didn't care or even want to move. I hope he's okay. Gorillas can get Covid and other human contagions from us too so I hope he gets well soon and it's nothing serious 🙏🙏🙏

Sweet Gentaro is so worried for his Dad. Gentaro stays close and the way he looks at Dad is so sweet with such concern and empathy. It is as if Gentaro is trying to think of a way to make Dad feel better and each time Dad moves he gets close to watch his behavior. Gentaro is learning that "protector" role and has such a sensitive and big heart. I always loved Gentaro's sweet eyes and face. His heart matches those beautiful and soft eyes. Momotaro came out last. That is not a good sign. His stomach is completely flat, indicating he is seriously ill. It saddens me to see this great silverback in such a weakened condition. I haven’t time to watch whole video yet, only saw beginning with Momo coming out last and my heart sinks. Makes me uncomfortable. He’s always first and foremost looking out for his family and checking enclosure before them. I’m worried about beloved Momo and his family is too. They don't have the financial backing to provide for the animals, and yet they frown at the request of outsiders literally "begging" to help them with costs. Unfortunately, I can no longer sit idly by and watch the destruction of these beautiful animals. Time to set my sights on those I can make a difference in helping. Still my heart aches as I say a tearful goodbye.

My goodness our Momotaro feels horrible. You can tell by how he's climbing and almost out of breath. I wonder if he's been tested for Covid, and has had his heart checked lately. Heart disease is the #1 killer of male gorilla's. I've never seen him come out (especially last) and the first thing he does is go pee. I hope the keepers know whats going on, isolate him and get him on the road to recovery quickly. Watching him makes me sad.

@@ken-yor8235 Thanks for letting us know. So hard to watch him suffer, you could see the pain in his face and how he was moving. Also, poor Gentaro. He knew something was wrong, just sitting there watching his Daddy and not knowing what he could do to help. I've never seen that mischievous boy so calm since he was born. They are so smart, so intuitive, so like us. Here's hoping they can get the flora back in Momotaro's gut where it needs to be quickly so he can get back to his old self.

He has a wound under his neck. That wound was not healing well. The zookeepers gave him antibiotics. But that medicine gave him diarrea. That is why he did not eat and lost weight. The zookeepers stop the treeatment. Now he is feeling better....

This being day 2 ,I am really concerned about dehydration now. If he is not eating,he is not drinking and you can tell by his chest it is grey and dry and not shiny black like usual. He needs liquids pronto you can go without food for a day or two but not water. Big concern

He is so weak he barely made it from up top when he made it to the ladder he had to rest before he went down then when he got down he had to rush together before he made it to the door to go inside you need to hook him up to some intravenous fluids if nothing else because he's going to dehydrate cuz he is obviously not eating or drinking anything.

Finally had time to watch and it’s depressing seeing Momotaro like this. I hope the vets are monitoring his condition closely. His activity level’s really reduced, he’s not gathering food or eating just crashing with fatigue around the enclosure. I don’t like this one bit. He’s not himself at all. If its serious, The Japanese Society of Zoos & Aquariums would make the decision if Momo needs to be temporarily transfered for treatment if this Zoo did not have the nessesary medical equipment to do so. For example, to Ueno Zoo. The city of Kyoto would not make that decision, they will do what is best to protect these protected gorillas. People need to calm down and stop saying that he screwed if its serious, what is wrong with you?

It is upsetting for many to see Momotaro in distress and anxiety provoking. I noticed for awhile now that momotaro has lost some weight.in this video I can see that something is wrong with him I prayed that he will get some help and that he will be alright.

Momotaro strength is declining and it looks like it is hard for him to catch his breath sometimes.I am so worried for him.Are the zookeeper aware of how sick he is?

I notice there's huge bolts that stick out of the rope connectors and other various things. They look to be the same size as that wound Momotaro had under his chin. Maybe he contracted tetanus from the possibly rusty bolt? Hope he gets well soon!

I just saw an update on another channel about Momo. He was given antibiotics for his wound under his chin. The antibiotics gave him upset stomach with diarrhea leading to dehydration. They since stopped the antibiotics and reported Momo has started eating bananas and other fruits, so he is on the mend❤❤

This is so heart breaking to see Momotaro so sick. It could be his heart or a bacterial infection. He had to rest before going inside. Please get him help soon. Here in the USA in Milwaukee zoo a couple years ago 2 gorillas died from e coli in their water, a silverback and a new mom with a 8 month old left an orphan. He is very seriously sick. And needs medical attention now. Sweet Gentaro and his family knows he is not well.

I found out an update. It was that wound on his jaw so they were giving him stuff for it but he was having side effects so they had to change things up. He’s eating but may take some time to feel 100% again

A few days ago Momotaro's favorite keeper tried to feed him, and he rejected it. By now sure the staff have called the vets in to diagnose (bloodwork etc) and beginning to treat whatever it is. I noticed Momotaro like this about a week ago, so hopefully meds have been started already. I worry so because Momotaro's father Biju had dramatic weight loss before he passed away. Biju's death was by asphyxiation, but still worrisome if the two could be related. Momotaro's mother Momoko is located at Ueno zoo, and healthy.

Certainly brought tears to my eyes Sonya, Momotaro will hopefully start to feel well again soon. The way Gentaro was staying close to his dad, he’s a smart boy and knows his dad is ill. I’m sure the zoo and medical staff will be doing everything possible for Momotaro although you wouldn’t have to be medically trained to see that there is something seriously wrong with Momotaro. 🙋‍♀️🦍🇬🇧

If these animals share 96% DNA with humans then im sure as hell they are depressed, based on their knowledge, their compassions, they know they dont belong in those damn cages, let them be free in the wild, the 4% that makes them different from us relys on fresh air, fresh environments, fresh food thats enough for all of them thats provided by nature, put yourself in jail for an example... If you all love them like you say you do please find a good spot for them and set them free
