Gentaro attacks Genki in an attempt to attract her attention.
Momotaro sometimes scolds Gentaro, but it's not enough.
Genki threw sand and grass at the sleeping Momotaro because Momotaro didn't help much.

⭐️モモタロウ Momotaro ♂(2000/7/3)
momotaro was born at Ueno zoo in Tokyo on jul.3,2000 and came to our zoo on Oct.18,2010.
He is beautiful and handsome ,the silverback of our troop.
He is a little timid,and scared of new things.
He sometimes shows lovely behaviors that melt our hearts.
He is making efforts to be a good dad for his two sons.
⭐️ゲンキ Genki ♀(1986/6/24)
Genki was born at our zoo on Jun,24,1986.
After mating with several males without a pregnancy she found her perfect partner Momotaro.
Now she is a loving and caring mom for her two sons.
She sometimes behaves boldly,yet she can also be sensitive.
Genki has a cute face with shining eyes.
⭐️ゲンタロウ Gentaro ♂(2011/12/21))
Gentaro was born at our zoo on Dec.21,2011,as Momotaro and Genki's first son.
Unfortunately Genki didn't have enough milk,so he was nursed by keepers for his first 10.5 months.
Now he loves his mom,and his face really looks like her.
He also loves people .
Everyone immediately agrees that he is a very adorable boy.
⭐️キンタロウ Kintaro ♂(2018/12/19)
Kintaro was born at our zoo on Dec.19,2018.
He has big bright eyes and long eyebrows.
He is growing fine ,being loved by his parents and brother.
He love to play by himself,with his father.
He is still small, but smart and strong-willed.
His cute appearance and behavior attract everyone's interest.

What children will do to get mom's attention... We all know Gentaro loves his mom to the moon and back, and had her complete attention and love for 6 or 7 years, then little brother came along and things changed. I completely understand Gentaro and wish there was a way to teach him a better way to get mom's attention. On the other hand we need to remember that we see only snippets of a few minutes. Their interaction might not be quite so bad.

Genki looks steaming mad at Gentaro and Momotaro. Poor girl wants to relax in the sunshine, and she has to deal with the rampaging teenage Gentaro. Even Kintaro looked confused and scared by his brother's behavior. I love seeing Gentaro with his family. But I feel he needs to be with other blackbacks, so he can tussle and play with a with gorillas his own age. There's just not enough for him to do in his current enclosure.

Genki completely understands what Gentaro is going through. At 3:11 she gets up scolding Momo for chasing after Gentaro. Genki is a strong wise female gorilla who can handle her own business.

Finally she tells Momo he sucks as a husband. For too long he sits by and does nothing while Gentaro acts out of control. If this was with Shabani's family this definitely would not be happening.

Yes , Momo does an awful job as a silverback but it is not his fault as his father Biju died 8 months and 5 days before baby Momo was born . In case of Shabani , he grew under the watchful eyes of his father Kibabu . The two silverbacks grew up in different ways and hence we see a huge difference in their actions and responses when there is an issue or a small fight between the troops .

It may come to the point where Gentaro must be moved. He's young, energetic and playful and in a troop in the wild, he would be working off that energy interacting with many gorillas of his own age and size, who also have energy. This zoo takes wonderful care of them but they don't appear to have the capability there of a huge enclosure and gorillas his own age and size. He will keep doing this to Genki because Momo would chew him up and spit him out and he knows this.

If you watch any of the other male Gorillas his age like Kiyomasa or Lope.. they do the same type of behavior. It’s partly him wanting to play and partly him showing off his strength. He’s not trying to hurt Genki. He’s very strong and if that was what he wanted he could easily hurt her. Genki knows what he’s doing which is why you can see her trying to calm him. It’s adolescent make gorilla behavior. Momotaro gets a bad rap but if he really thought Genki was n trouble he would step in. I’ve seen him too many times protect Genki. He maybe did not respond the way she wanted this time and she let him know.

He wants her attention, Gentaro is a mamas boy...if you watch carefully or in slow motion, you will see that it's a light slap or a little touch and the branches are thrown lightly at her...look at that thick coat she's wearing. It looks worse than it really is. Genki hates it because he is TEASING her. I know I don't like to be teased with. Genki can throw down on Gentaro if she really wanted to. She is a tough no nonsense mama.
