Sumomo is so fortunate to have a large family like this. She will be cared for, and spoiled, if possible for a gorilla...lol They all waited almost a year for her to join the troop and Im sure this is why they are so possessive of her. She is so loved.

@@debbiedavis8481 I know they raised her. Tell me when and how do they feed her if siblings take turns playing with her? Which of them brings the baby to feed on command? At the zoo, pregnant mothers are taught to bring a baby in case she can't nurse him, but surely no one here does anything like that. I've seen a starved chimpanzee, an orangutan, a gibbon, and all in Japanese zoos. Because there are no animal training programs that help in such situations. Let me remind you that a gorilla mother feeds a child up to 4 years old.

Riki was the ultimate spoiled baby so suspect he will spoil Su like he was. I'll never forget when Haoka grabbed him as a baby and took off running with Riki's mama in hot pursuit screaming all the way! LOL Su is in good hands..

From my vantage point: Gentaro was/is much, much rougher with Kintaro which is why his parents exercised caution. For every time he was gentle you can count 2x of him dragging baby Kintaro and slam him in to a log or rock (and I'm not exaggerating). Both boys are very rough which is why the Momotaro family has a completely different vibe that the Haoko family. They also have different enclosures and family structures which could contribute to the Kintaro & Gentaro energy (not having grass, trees, enough space to run etc.) It's just one of the shortcomings of some zoos. Anywho, I'm ranting. I hope you have a great day ❤

He’s so sweet to his sister. He just wants to help. He is smart , he is mimicking his Mother and sister, He just wants to take care of her like the females in his family. Can’t wait to see Big Beautiful Silverback Daddy’s bonding with her when she gets little older. She may be afraid of him right now but I think he could be very protective of her like Annie’s father is with her. Momoko has loosened up more and more with every child she has. She knows she’s in good hands and trusts the family to be gentle. All of them have experience with a baby except for Riki and you can see how sweet he’s being. ❤

Great video. Can anyone tell me how the baby is fed? Is this just the public viewing hour? Babies require a lot of milk and none of the females are lactating. The Vervet Foundation teaches tiny babies in this situation to crawl in and out of little cages placed around the family enclosure to get milk bottles.

Sumomo gets supplemental feedings, bottle 🍼 fed milk through the bars every couple of hours. Plus she is eating solid bite sized foods as well 😊.

@@kathynunez-fx5iu Sumomo is just starting to learn to live with the troop. She went from a room indoors being hand reared to a huge outdoor open area enclosure. I am sure for her, it's a lot to take in. Momoka and Riki try to put her down periodically, but she's got a super tight baby gorilla grip, and won't let go 😆. She's just not quite ready yet. For now she feels safe snuggled in someone's arms. Not to worry though. Those little cute 🥰 baby 🌺 girl gorilla legs will be running around the enclosure in no time 😀.

Momoko is a sharp contrast to Genki, who rarely let go of Kintaro. Momoko seems loving, but indifferent to whoever wants to care of Sumomo. She's more interested in eating it seems.

I'm saying the same thing here, but the commenters are from another world and they think it's a living toy that everyone takes such "great" care of! A mother should be trained to bring her baby to caregivers for feeding, but nothing works here. Everyone's been tormenting and playing with this baby all day long and she's not eating anything! Mother is not interested in her at all! In my opinion, this child should find a surrogate mother who would take care of her and give her a sense of security, and here it is some chaos and incomprehensible what it is supposed to be. They should separate the mother and baby until a bond is formed between them and she starts nursing or bringing the baby to feed. I think it's more about selling tickets than about the welfare of this little gorilla!!!

@@GorillaForest Yes? and how do they force them to give up the child? and how many times a day do they eat ?once? After all, she should eat whenever she feels like it, she's not even a year old! She can't even sleep peacefully because someone is always taking her somewhere and playing with her! Have you ever seen a mother let her baby be carried all day without taking care of him herself?! Why has she been given to the herd already, so that they have something to play with, and when they get bored, what? I hope nothing happens to the little one. When she was born, I also wrote that her mother did not feed her, those conscious commentators told me that her sister would take care of her, do these people know anything about gorillas?

You might be misinterpreting it. The mother might just be very relaxed and not overprotective ( like Genki is over Kintaro in a different Japanese Zoo) because the members of her troop, especially her direct kin, are very trustworthy.

Momoko and Haoko are very experienced parents. Sumomo is their 4th baby together. Don't forget Momoko is also mother of Momotaro by silverback Bijou. If that baby even whimpers slightly, her parents will be by her side in a second. Toto who seems standoffish would even be there as backup. Toto may appear not as interested because in gorilla hierarchy she is not alpha female, Momoko is. Therefore the moment she is at the bottom of the group as the alpha's kids come before her. Remember how dominant Momoko is and what she did to Genki 25 years ago in the family hierarchy game. Toto will get her turn.
