Gorilla's Gentle Curiosity Towards the Baby - Shinda Keeping the Silverback at Bay

Ajabu, a 7-year-old gorilla, is intrigued by a new born in the troop. Gorilla Shinda holds a charging Silverback.
Gorilla Youngster Ajabu (7) is showing an interest in the new born baby girl named Mobi in the troop. He tries to get closer to the little baby wanting to touch her, he manages to just briefly touch the baby's cheek, but then pulls his hand away quickly. I think Mother's Duni's arm had something to do with it as well, as she's very protective of her firstborn born and she slightly lifted it up when Ajabu came close.
Duni is lying on her back, pulling her newborn baby girl up by her hands to check the little one. Ajabu watches closely. As the baby wiggles on mum's chest, Ajabu investigates the baby's gender and then moves around so he gets a better view of the baby. Ajabu's mother Shinda moved in front of the scene.
The youngster has been trying to get closer to the little baby all day. He's being quite patient about it, not like Lope was with Shufai. I'm sure in a few months time Duni will be more accommodating. For now, if you watch Duni's face/reaction throughout she gives him that little nudge here and there or pulls away a little to try to stop him from getting too close.
At the end of the video, Ajabu tries to gently bite the foot of the baby while Mum walks away. Not sure if this is the reason the Silverback Kisumu steps in and charges through his troop all of a sudden or it's just that time of the day where the Silverback gets hungry. It's Shinda, Ajabu's mother who slows the big fellow down by grabbing his hand and pulling him back.

It wouldn't surprise me if Shinda was colluding with Abaju to steal the baby in that moment. . She used to steal Kijuvu's babies and parade around the the pavilion and show off to Richard, but probably that is what made her a better mother. I have read from their keeper in Australia that Shinda's mother Frala was not a good mother. It used to get Richard angry, because the babies were passed around a lot in the family. It was funny to watch as the babies were always safe. 😂 But, Richard did not seem to like it at all. Kisumu seems on top of things though. Thank you so much for the video of the beloved family. 💗
