Have you ever dreamt of seeing wild mountain gorillas? Well, that was my dream for 22 years, and in the summer of 2021, that dream finally came true.
In today's video, I'm taking you to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda, one the last remaining places in the world where mountain gorillas still reside. I'm going to share my full experience so that you can start turning YOUR gorilla trekking dreams into a reality.
I'll be sharing my Uganda itinerary, going over the travel logistics, and revealing the costs involved with this adventure.
Witnessing the endangered mountain gorilla in this pristine habitat changed my life. This magical experience will transport your soul to new heights and connect you to nature like never before. I hope this video offers you insight, inspiration, and realization to help you prepare for this once in a lifetime experience.

Your video is sooo good. I felt like I was back in Uganda. We (four women) were also there in June 2021. We also booked through Paul who is now with Monkey O’Clock. We had a different guide, Gordon, who was also excellent. You’re right. They are now friends. The trip was indeed fantastic, and I felt like I was contributing to the conservation efforts taking place in this beautiful part of the world. Just go!!

They've always been careful of human-gorilla disease transmission, even before COVID. So I don't see them ever dropping the mask requirement.

Excellent video - and we've watched many as we plan our upcoming trip to Uganda! Can you comment on which camera lens(es) you used for the gorillas? Many sites recommend a 70-200 but looks like you were quite close most of the time. Also tipping - thanks for the suggestions. You said 100-200 for guides - is that the gorilla trek guide, or the guide that drove you from place to place? Thanks!

Hi Bryan, I'm glad you found this video helpful! The gorilla footage seen in this video was filmed on a Sony a7iii using a Sony Alpha 70-350 mm lens. For more details and to view my entire wildlife camera set-up, I invite you to look at my storefront page where I have all my gear organized and listed: www.amazon.com/shop/jeff_hyer/list/2S0NRIJLL9A81?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d As for tipping - I was referring to the gorilla trekking guide(s). I always like to be generous when showing gratitude for personalized services like this. Some people might say that's on the high side but I feel $100-$200 split amongst your porters, guides, and trackers is reasonable in my opinion. Their work is not easy and they take careful care of guests.

Hi - you mentioned that you visited Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania on this trip. What visa did you get? I want to do the same countries and it looks like I need the East Africa visa, and a Tanzania visa. But I’d be flying in/out of Nairobi from the US. So I’d be entering Kenya twice - one coming back from Uganda and one coming back from Tanzania. Any thoughts? Would I be able to do this?
@Jeff_Hyer
@Jeff_Hyer Жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for your message. I went on a very similar trip where I entered Kenya twice - once from Uganda and once from Tanzania. Your East Africa visa is valid for 3 months, so it should allow you to enter twice without a problem. You will have to obtain the Tanzania visa separately.

Great question! I plan to make a video all about safari travel tipping customs, but to quickly answer your question, I encourage travelers to tip their guides $10-$20 per person, per day for their services :) This goes for both game drive guides in the Masai Mara and Gorilla Tracking guides in places like Rwanda. I hope this helps!
