This Is The Same Year As Don Bluth And Steven Spielberg's Groundbreaking Masterpiece The Land Before Time And Disney's Who Framed Roger Rabbit And Disney's Oliver And Company And Disney's Willow Came Out In Theatres As Well Too. The Gorilla species would possibly be extinct had it not been for Dian. Sigourney Weaver is fantastic in this role and part of the Digit Fund years later that Dian established. The book, Gorillas in the Midst, provides some context regarding the appendix comment made in the movie when she chatted with Louis Leakey, "...to say nothing of my appendix". It was an unnecessary procedure, yet a test of commitment & sincerity when she started out. Leaky was a good judge of character when selecting Diane (gorillas), Jane (chimp), and Birute (orangutan) researchers.
