Gorillas In The Rain

Kera from the Bristol zoo is taking cover under the hut when it starts to rain during feeding time. She moves her hand, which I suspect means she wants some food, as I've seen this quite often in gorillas at feeding time.
Touni puts up with the rain as she's near the staff that throwing in the food. Kera comes out of the hut, when she spots a big Cauliflower and she runs off it straight away to go inside. Kukena fishes for her foot that fallen into the water and she also runs straight inside. Touni is still sitting in the rain eating her food and Kala in the hut managed to get some food as well. When she had enough, probably getting too cold, that's when she decides to make a dash for the warm inside as well. Jock the Silverback was outside is well, not sure where he was hiding, but he had enough as well and goes inside. The kids, Afia and Ayana stayed inside with Dad Jock.
Some info on the Bristol Zoo you might like:
The first Gorilla arrived at Bristol zoo in 8th September 1930 named Alfred. The Zoo itself opened in July 11th 1836! The first gorilla birth was on the March 6th 1971.
Currently, there are 7 gorillas at the Bristol Zoo.
Starting of with Jock the Silverback, he was born on the May 31st 1983 at Zoo La Palmyre. He got moved to the Bristol Zoo on the 25.June.2003. His offspring are: Namoki, Komale, Kukena, Afia, Ayana.
Kera was born on the August 26th 2004 at the Parc Zoológic de Barcelona. She moved to the Bristol zoo on the 08.September.2008. Her offspring is Afia.
Afia was born by emergency cesarean section at Bristol Zoo on the 12th of February 2016 after her mother, Kera, showed symptoms of potentially life-threatening pre-eclampsia. She had to be hand-raised. Gorilla Romina took an interest in Afia when the keepers walked past her Afia on their arm. So Afia was slowly introduced to Romina and in October started bonding with her surrogate mother. Kera did recover after being ill for a while but didn't recognize Afia as her daughter. Romina took over to raise her, but sadly they had to put her to sleep in Aug 2018 because she had an advanced large cancerous mass in her abdomen. Afia by then was part of the group and dad Jock and the other females looked after her.
Touni was born on the 12th of December 2007 at the La Vallée des Singes and got moved to the Bristol Zoo on the 28.September 2015. Her daughter is Ayana who was born on the 22nd of April 2017. Jock is the dad of Afia and Ayana.
Kala was born on the 11th of December 2010 in Hannover. She's the newest member of the group as she joined on the 16.October.2018. She was pregnant in Sep 2019, but sadly lost the baby. The cause of death is unknown.
Kukena was born on the 27th of September 2011 at Bristol Zoo and the further is Jock. She hasn't got any offspring yet and is soon to be moved or might already been moved.

News just in: Baby gorilla born here at Bristol Zoo Gardens!! Bristol zoo wrote "Mum Touni gave birth naturally overnight to the infant, with dad, Jock, and the rest of the family troop nearby. Keepers arrived in the morning to find the little gorilla being cradled in its mother’s arms. It is 13-year-old Touni’s second baby. In April 2017 she gave birth to Ayana, who still lives at the Zoo." Hopefully I will manage to visit the Bristol Zoo as soon as possible to bring you some video! :-)

Yes, they would certainly use them. Gorilla's and Orangutans in the wild will fashion umbrella's from large branches and leaves to protect themselves from rain. They also make hats to prevent themselves from getting wet. However, most unbrellas we use are designed so we can convienently store them away when it is not raining, the mechanism they use to open and retract often fails with repeated use so are probably not appropriate for the larger hands of an Ape. A fixed, more robust design made from wood and without the parts that poke out eyes might work better for Gorillas.

Gorillas are vegetarians. They dont not eat meat sources unless you count that they eat ants and other insects for protein sometimes. They spend most of the day eating pounds of plants and green leafy vegetation.
