Imagine it. It's your first school dance, so you're not sure what to expect. Probably awkward middle schoolers too nervous to ask their crush to dance, really bad pop songs and crappy food. You get there early because you're nervous. For a few moments you stand outside the gym doors, hands sweating in anticipation, you feel nauseated, partly from anxiety and partly from the booming base coming from inside. Then, the base halts and you begin to hear the familiar laugh you've grown accustomed to hearing, it's Feel Good Inc. So you open the doors. The gym is dimly lit so as to give the glittery streamers and balloons more notice. No one else has arrived, you stand alone in the center of the empty gym. There is a chair stuck into a corner, forgotten. Walking over to it, you wheel it into the center where you once stood. Sitting down, you spin youself in a circle. The music floats around your head in a dizzying spiral. As the song ends you hear the footsteps and chatter of your peers arriving to the dance. You push the chair back to the corner, and as they enter, girls and boys now streaming through the once silently closed doors, you realize something. You aren't nervous anymore.
