there are 2 patterns that have kept on occurring since episode 2: 1. main conflict has to deal with a loss Melvin suffered/ how to deal with afterwards (his dad who Melvin wanted to live up to the expectations presented by him, his hermit crab with the grief he had trouble dealing with healthily, and Barry's death and the guilt Melvin carries because of it) 2. main antagonist has the head shape corresponding with the general theme of the episode (Robbie with a bowling pin head, Jerimiah with a Nintendo 64 controller head, and Chet with a cross/reverse cross head)
