Here in Germany the Goshawks are also the phantom of the forest. They are there, but they live very hidden from our eyes. Thanks to pigeon breeding, the phantom of the forest becomes visible in the winter. It is breathtaking to watch him hunt pigeons. Most importantly, the books say that he only hunts birds close to the ground because he needs obstacles for his surprise attack. They say it is too slow to hunt in the air. But you can see from my videos that it is a versatile hunter and is just as dangerous in the air as the peregrine falcon. I find it more dangerous to pigeons than the peregrine falcon. He chases them on the roof, when they are running around on the ground he uses the surprise attack through the obstacles and he also chases them in the sky. It is clear that it causes the most damage to pigeon breeders.
