Totally agree Russell, I purchased a CZ Redhead Premier Target 12 Ga. O/U shotgun with 30 inch barrel and raised comb. I also got 5 extended chokes to go with it and can use it for all clay disciplines including hunting! The shotgun is very reasonably priced also.

Late to the game but appreciate all the effort you put into making all of your videos, wish they were longer but you are amazing for taking the time to answer everyone’s questions in the comments section. And of course it’s always great to see your better half as well! 😁 Oh, great wine collection btw cheers 🥂

Many semiautos also make great all rounders, and are much more affordable for people just getting into clay shooting. I've been shooting for many years with various o/u and semi - I just picked up a beretta a300 ultima to replace a worn out mossberg 930 and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one to a beginner. beretta did well with this gun.

We certainly agree, but sadly many countries won’t allow the use of semi automatic shotguns

Thank you Mark for validating my purchase. I am new to the shotgun clays and researched preferences and features and chose a 30" O/U sporter that included 10 chokes so I can chose same for both barrels if I wish. I have taken your advise and patterned at 25 yards and found IC chokes is where I want to start with skeet.

I am new to shotguns, looking to buy one suitable for both DTL and sporting at this stage. I think I am set on getting one with an adjustable comb. Yesterday I spoke to a Miroku guns rep and he said to buy a trap gun because it will be more suitable to both. His main reason was that the trap guns have a more vertical pistol grip which will create more consistent results maybe from more consistent gun holding, over a sporter which have a flatter pistol grip. He also said to shoot at least 500 rounds before I make any comb or pitch adjustments, I think this will lead to bad habits early on. Can you offer some advice, thanks

I guess the answer lies with what discipline you will ultimately shoot the most. A 32” barrel Trap gun may be difficult to shoot sporting with and alternatively a lightweight 30” barrel sporting barrel may be just as difficult to shoot trap with. The adjustable stock will certainly help

Fit the gun correctly before shooting. Make sure to mount the gun the same way after the fitting. If you plan on shooting often at clays don't buy a cheap gun. It's very easy to put five thousand rounds through a gun in one year. Cheap O/U guns and most semi auto will not hold up to this type of use. Better to save up for a say $4,000 gun , starting price for a very good clay gun that will provide trouble free shooting for years, with regular cleaning and lubricating.

found it nearly impossible to get a straight answer on what to buy as an all rounder. i went with a 694 sporting with adjustable comb, 30' barrells and interchangeable chokes for the exact reasons you mention. lower comb with ability to raise, beats high comb without the ability to lower it any day

Hello - a trap gun with exchangeable chokes seems more readily available at the moment; especially for us left-handers. Is a new shooter making a mistake by buying one of those? Are trap guns really that unsuitable for skeet/sporting clays etc?
@GoShooting4 жыл бұрын
The main problem will be many trap guns come with fixed chokes which will eliminate its use for Skeet and certainly restrict its use for Sporting. The other issue of course is the height of the trap stock which will not suit all Sporting shooters

Question off subject... What adjustments are necessary when you go from shooting in the daylight to shooting at night. Daytime I shot 22-23 American Trap from the 20 yard line. Come night shooting my average drops by at least 5 birds Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike
@GoShooting3 жыл бұрын
Do you prescription lens at night? If so, have they got an "anti glare" coating on them? Honestly I wouldn't advise you change much at all at night. Are the lights you are shooting under adequate? We have a video on this subject here on KZbin

These 77 year old eyes have their work cut out for them. Watched the video and this week will see if my eyes refocus because of the front sight glowing. Thank you for your advice. Mike in Eau Claire, Wisconsin

What choke size do you recommend for shooting trap at 16 yards? I’ve been using a .020 modified but I’m experimenting recently with a light full .030 to see if my scores improve.
@GoShooting5 жыл бұрын
Hi Transporter sorry for the slow response. I have always been an advocate for improved modified from 16 yards and full from the back
@transporter98645 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I am back to using a modified and shot my first 25 at 16 yards. For some reason the modified works better for me closer up.
@GoShooting5 жыл бұрын
@@transporter9864 it's a tough call. Your choke is largely determined by what ammunition you are using. It can vary enormously. but ultimately the best choke is the one that breaks the most targets
