This one is over price though, it's just a generic chinese one being resold under dozens of different brandnames so for anyone else watching just search "Digiscope Adapter" on amazon and get whatever one that looks just like this but is cheaper. They are all the same manufacturer and bulk resold to other companies who put their own brand on.

I bought one if these and am still playing with it. I feel that it's best to remove the rubber eye guard completely if the clamp wants to grip the eyepiece at that point to achieve best performance. It also strikes me that if you want to increase the eyepiece-camera distance a bit, the bolt parallel to the eyepiece axis seems to be long enough that a flat washer could be introduced as a spacer. Once the correct distance is achieved, stray-light reflections could be reduced by fashioning some kind of foam baffle. I still have a lot to figure out regarding the right kind of eyepiece. What are your thoughts regarding the placement of the camera lens via-a-vis the exit pupil of the telescope?
@geosobservations94962 жыл бұрын
I like the foam baffle idea... that would fix my haze issues for daytime viewing 👏🙂
@geosobservations94962 жыл бұрын
They work very well with an X-cel eyepiece... especially the 7mm they clamp on under the eyeguard and then it screws up to the camera 🤗

Hello. I hope you can help me! I have this type of adapter, and I use it to take pictures with a smartphone connected to the eyepiece of the telescope. With the moon, it's very easy to adjust the distance and alignment, to make decent photos. But. When I try to take deep sky shots, having to raise the ISO value. The photo comes out with a clear halo! Sometimes on one side or more central, depending on the alignment of the sensor-eyepiece. How can this be solved? And if I used the "Celestron NexYZ", could the same problem arise? Thank you!

Hello, very informative video. Am also interested in buying this. But have a little doubt, actually how much eye relief this adaptor supports. Means how much u can move the phone towards or away from the earpiece?
@JenhamsAstro4 жыл бұрын
Vishnudas Kartha Thanks. If the phone is flat in the “tray” then there is about 6mm between the EP and camera. If you tilt the camera away from the EP you can get a separation of about 15mm before the clamp is no holding the phone securely. This isn’t an ideal setup and the reason why the Celestron NeXYZ has the Z axis adjustment feature. But it costs a lot more. I hope this helps.

Cheap but you get what you pay for. Had one of these and tried using it on a spotting scope. OK results but ultimately ended up sending it back...way too much fiddling around required to get it adjusted correctly. Definitely not an easily repeatable plug-and-play solution like other fixed device mounts that are out there.
@JenhamsAstro5 жыл бұрын
Sam White Fiddly yes, but decent value. For an Astro scope it can give much better results than the handheld approach. Definitely not a tidy solution though I fully agree. But as an example is the NeXYZ worth 4x more? Not for me.

I have an iPhone 11 and it’s quite difficult to use this mount. Is there any tips on how I can make it work? because it’s kinda annoying
@JenhamsAstro3 жыл бұрын
Hi, when i made the video I had used smaller iPhone 7s and an old 5 which were easier. I have an 11 now and have managed to use it, but often the phone's volume buttons get trapped in the clamp and the phone turns off or takes pictures. My only tip is to align the camera on the adapter during the day-time, looking through the eyepiece. Clamp it down as best you can and then take the adapter and phone off together until you use them at night and are lined up on your target, being careful not to nudge anything when you re-attach them. The NexYZ is better, but costly and often too heavy in my experience to stay put. Overall I agree these things can be annoying!

I have two. For me I think they are rubbish. They allow light to get between the eye piece and the phone which is a bad idea. 5:51 can you slide the eyepiece up higher (towards the iphone lens) in the mount before you lock it in place so that it is closer to the iphone lens when you attach the iphone?? to allow full FOV>
@JenhamsAstro6 жыл бұрын
Hello, i just checked and you can move and then clamp the eyepiece so it is in contact with the iphone. The problem is that often the image fills the screen more when it the camera is further away from the eyepiece lens. I haven't got a ray diagram to explain this but often it works that way, so you find yourself trying to increase the distance, which isn't easy with this mount.
@DavidMFChapman2 жыл бұрын
I agree, there’s an optimum distance. I feel that the camera lens should be placed at the exit pupil of the telescope, which depends on the choice of eyepiece. The Celestron NeXYZ solves this problem by actually having a fine control for this. It’s more expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

@JenhamsAstro3 жыл бұрын
Hello, in the video I am using an old celestron 26mm plossl eyepiece, which as you say has a large eye lens. But the illuminated part on the lens where the image is is the same size as the exit pupil of your setup, so is the eyepiece focal length (20 for you) divided by the telescopes focal ratio. Even with my setup it is not simple to position the camera - I often have to zoom the camera in a little to fill more of the frame. Trial and lots of error.
@JenhamsAstro3 жыл бұрын
And then the K in your lens means Kellner. These are cheap, old designs that are inferior to a plossl in many cases.

@JenhamsAstro3 жыл бұрын
I'd say no. If I expand the device to its maximum width it's around 85mm. Googling your tablet suggests its about 98mm. In general these adapters are happiest with a small, light device in my experience. They do the job, but gravity is always trying to move the device so that the camera lens becomes misaligned with the EP, A light/small device can be clamped more rigidly to resist this.

R L I doubt it. If the view through a scope was, say, of a 1 foot section of a target, and the projectile travels at 1000 ft/s then neither the 60fps or even the 240fps slo-mo would capture it well. You need a faster frame rate I think. That’s just my guess.
