Hey thanks for the review. I am a huge GG fan and also just switched out of the Mariposa just because I've dialed my kit down to where its just too big. I get the sweaty back issue and how that's fixed by the zpacks pack. There were two issues that steered me away from zpacks. Number one being that its just not as simple and has more to break with the arc system. a part of that system (from whats been reported) can get in the way of the bear can that I always carry. So that was a worry. But one thing that I feel is far superior in the GG design is the shoulder straps. I could be wrong but if you notice on GG packs that the 1" webbing attached at the top and the bottom are only attached there and don't form a continuous load bearing strap. On GG packs the load is carried by the full 3 or 4" width of the shoulder strap. On most other packs including zpacks it appears that the load is fully carried by the 1" strap that is sewn into the pad below it. The shoulder pad is just cushioning the 1" webbing thats holding the load. It forms the very typical V shape of the strap under load. Having both I'd be interested to know if you notice any difference. I switched out to the G4-20 from gossamer. The mariposa set me up pretty good for the feel of the frameless and at 22 lbs all in I don't even notice the difference without the frame. Bottom line, new packs are awesome. Have fun

Awesome comment! Very insightful information here. I agree, the straps on the Gossamer Gear were extremely comfortable. I almost bought another Gossamer Gear. I had the Mariposa for three years. But, when I called Gossamer Gear about some repairs I needed, they said they no longer fix things in house and sent me to a company who do their repairs. That company wanted to charge me almost the price of a new pack. That event really moved me to find another company. I have not heard great stories about Zpacks Customer Service. But, they have treated me right so far, switching out a hip belt when mine didn’t work. It just boiled down to weight and the arc. I like having the pack off my back. But, I did love my Mariposa for three years. Appreciate it! Crow✌️

I ended up with the Arc Zip. I have lightened my load and volume considerably. I spent all that money I saved over the decades of not spending on gear: Big Agnes tent, UGQ quilt, & Arc Zip pack. Ordered in winter so lead time was not an issue. Hell, tent, quilt, and pack together weigh about the same as my old Kelty D4 I bought in 1996! I am very respectful of my tools.

Great overview of these packs and nice to hear your experience them! I like what you said about it being a very person decision about what works for YOU. The reason there are so many packs out there is that people like so many different things. You had me jealous when you mentioned the weight - 2 lbs for a 60 liter seems pretty good! Man if you want a major upgrade, I couldn't recommend Gossamer Gear more. They have packs in the perfect sizes. The quality is top notch. That long pocket in the Mariposa and the G4-20 is my favorite feature. it typically holds my days food, but on long water carries it perfectly holds a 3 liter water bag nice and secure. And mine weights 2 lbs 3 ozs good for full comfort at 30 lbs - 35 lbs you start to notice but still so comfortable. The price points just can't be beat - The only thing they miss is the lie that dyneema it waterproof (it is but the seams arean"t). I couldn't find an equal in Dyneema without spending 325 vs 180 and waiting 12 weeks. Bury that 70 liter and bury the shovel afterwards. Peace to you and yours

Great comment! Thanks for joining in on this discussion. I have had the Mariposa for three years. It is finally starting to fall apart. But, it has been a good pack. I will say that I am not impressed with Gossamer Gear when it comes to repairs. Other than that, great pack! 😊🙏

I might make something, depends on how those puncher properties work out. I have a ten pound pack weight if I wannabe extra lean, I wouldn't be able to do that without dyneema. That company has been around a long time. They know what they are going. My only issue is...and I didn’t put this in the video (I actually cut it out). When I wanted to get the Mariposa fixed, I called them. They are now “farming out” their repairs to a third party. Would love to try a Zpack Arc pack at some point, it's just to far out of my budget at the moment. I went with a Gregory Zulu 55L that has a suspended pack frame. And then later I was able to grab a close-out Alps Mountaineering Baja 40L with a similar suspension. I still sweat but it's not nearly as uncomfortable as my older pack that was up against my back. I've sweat through my pack before and sweat/salt stains on the harness is a given. Eventually I would like to get something with a roll-top top and an arc'd/suspended frame. Thank you for your reviews.

I have to get my mom to teach me how to sew. She is an excellent seamstress. So true, harder to find people to do this nowadays...appreciate you guys. Crow✌️

How is that even possible? Its not like we need to make butter or wine or something. Cloths and stuff have to be made. I used to know how to sew when I was a kid, I think we may even still have a machine. My wife used to use it for various things but hasn't in decades...wtf. What would the US look like if Asia stopped sending us cloths? Bunch of naked idiots in paper bags....but bags are illegal in Ca. so .....yeah I gotta fix this issue....Can I borrow your girlfriend?

Brad I have the arc haul for winter and the blast for summer. Once I got these packs I don't even look at other packs not that they are perfect but good enough for now. Hip belt had to upgrade to a bigger size. Oh I forgot how old you are 50 wow not even a senior citizen. Lmao. See ya later Old Crow.

Appreciate it John! 🤣🤣✌️. Great livestream with Metro the other day. Yeah, I’m thinking about doing the same thing. I believe the Arc Blast is a little few liters for me with my winter gear. I think I will eventually get the haul for winter. Thanks my friend. Crow ✌️

You didn't "invest" in a backpack. That I not an appreciating asset. You spent money
