Gossen Ultra, 121GW and Brymen BM869s stability

500mV source from Fluke 731B reference. No warmup allowed. Just showing how unstable the EEVBLOG 121GW is compared with the other two meters.

I just tried this using my PDVSII mini as a source. My Bryman BM869s showed ±2 1µV digits in the 500,000 count mode. My 121GW showed ±1 10µV digit. Both of these results are good. Did your stress testing of the 121GW cause the added noise on yours? You did not test for that, you were only looking for hard failures.

If you read the few posts in the thread linked in the description, there was no destructive tests ran on this meter. I had bought two. One to test, the other to keep as a reference. The one I tested was damaged beyond repair.

@@joesmith-je3tq I apologize for not recalling the details of your 121GW tests. It was many months ago I watched them. I made a short video and published it my KZbin page showing my test of the BM869s & 121GW. My 121GW is quiet and stable. Since we each only have one working version of the meter it is impossible to say if your experience or mine is more typical. However your test does show that the 121GW you have is noisy.

by the way, it is not a Gossen multimeter but a Metrawatt multimeter. Gossen makes hi-end power supplies and Lloyds certified instruments for ships and lighting measuring stuff. Metrawatt is the one who specializes in quality multimeters.

Are we talking about the Gossen meter I tested some time ago that is clearly labeled Gossen Metrawatt on the face?

@@joesmith-je3tq yes exactly. Gossen-Metrawatt is the consortium, actually the swiiss Camille-Bauer is also part of it.But these are three different firms and Metrawatt is the one that makes the multimeters.

Since you are very acquainted with UEI products by now, any chance you would do your robustnes test on one of their dual display clamps? Perhaps DL369/389 or DL489? The Dual display is very useful for HVAC applications for viewing current and other parameter simultaneously, so it would be interesting to see how they stack up to the rest of the field robustness wise.

HI Joe. Measure the shunt resistance voltage (current sensor) in AC millivolt position with BM869s. you will get wrong result.

All meters in all functions will give wrong results. The question is how wrong. As long as it meets the manufactures specs, no problem.

@@joesmith-je3tq You were pretty obsessed about the lack of shielding, but your reviews didn't go into much else. In this video, the Gossen looks like it's the most stable

I'm ready for BM 869S vs HP 34401A. I always thought that 500,000 count feature was a gimmick, but maybe not?? Joe is da DMM man 👍

Bm 869 s only few micro Volts deviations not bad, how fluke 289 or some high end agilent performs in same situation interesting? A fought about buying 121, but I guess it is not good idea. Bm s only crest function (max/min) behaves strange, over functions for ordinary user works well as for me.

I don't own the 289 and the high end Keysight meter I bought for testing was damaged beyond repair. That's 2 for 2 on Keysight.

@@joesmith-je3tq think BM need in recalibration (its not a problem 4 u). GM 1 of my favorite MM. 121GW also useable in outdoor progects such as prechecking something or testing HV light-diods (its not a precise MM). In pair with a cheap clamp adapter 121GW also can mesure inrush current.
