This is the crane and winch that I mentioned on my last video. I had a removable mount custom made for this crane to mount on my sawmill.
Get yours here: amzn.to/36TS3bD
This has an electric 2,000 pound winch which will help me load logs onto my sawmill at the push of a button.

You need to reinforce / replace the crane / winch mount on your trailer. it is definately not going to last long how it is now. I would go for at least double the size box section steel. Far better to over engineer than have a failure.

It is just a mount to hold it in place. The crane will be supported from underneath. And I may put some more cross bracing at angles if I feel the need later on. Thanks.

Looks good. Though if you lift anything heavier you will have 2 issues. 1. You need support legs on that trolly itself so it doesnt move when in use or lifting heavier logs. 2. The frame for that crane is not heavy duty enough to cope with a couple of 100kgs by the looks of it. It will bend over time :) You will most likely see and have to strengthen it a bit. But the crane itself look solid!

That looks handy. I was already thinking about putting a jib on my mill. I took an engine hoist/cherry picker and built a swivel plate for a trailer I use. The battery is mounted on the upright so it can go 360 degrees without winding the power leads up. There is a downfall with it. The first time I went to push the tube back in to make it shorter it was stuck. A squirrel filled it up with pine cones. I took the cones out and tossed them in a plastic barrel. When I went to get cones for a fire in my shop stove they were gone. The squirrel found them again. This is my life...

All Thumbs Up Every Time ! #56 I think the bars holding the base plate are too small. I think the first heavy log you attempt to lift will bend the bars. They need to be heavier. Troy, I used to be a rigger and while I think your system is a good plan, I do think the bars holding the base plate do need to be Heavier/Bigger by at least 2x.

There will be support under the base plate tho. It is part of my plan. I am using a big log round and a jack under it.

Really good looking crane and winch set up. That will be so handy. I am curious as to if you may need to incorporate some sort of removeable brace from under the crane plate to the ground for added stability sometime in the future? But it does look pretty sturdy so may be just fine. Either way the whole thing looks real good!
@TheDoItYourselfWorld

@@DoctorBill my guess is that it may twist depending where it is positioned when it is pulling up the log. A heavy peice of angle iron welded across the frame paralell to each of the crane plate arms and extending out to the outer edge of the crane plate would let the plate slide under the edges of the angle iron then a c clamp could be used to snug the plate to the angle iron. Sort of hard to describe but would eliminate the need for brace underneath and would not let it bend upwards very easy either.
@TheDoItYourselfWorld
@TheDoItYourselfWorld 2 жыл бұрын
I am considering some sort of removable arms as well if needed.

Very nice, that crane and winch setup is going to help you a lot. Now just a couple of nice big straps and your set. Do you think you may need a pair of swing arm stabilizer? I know you are putting trailer hitch screw jacks for leveling all around, maybe put some screw jacks on them pair of swing arm stabilizer?

Hey Troy, Nice New Mill Setup. The Crane set up will seriously help your back and will totally be helpful in other ways. Will you tie the battery into the mill engine to keep the battery charged? Looking at how the crane swings out to pick up logs, I'm wondering if you'll need stabilizers so the mill won't tip on one side when you have heavier logs. I'm sure you might have thought of this already, but just incase, for safety, maybe consider it. Simple levelling jacks on extensions would do the job I'm sure. Just want you to be safe and not get any un necessary injuries. This Saw Mill really should be a keeper! Oh, to protect the frame from paint getting scratched and the metal being exposed and rusting, maybe check into powder coating the whole frame. Powder Coating lasts a really long time and is incredibly durable and takes no maintenance. I'm happy to see that things appear to be going better there for the 3 of you in most ways. Keep Safe Always, Lots of Love for the 4 of you, Matt - Toronto, Canada
